Fletcher Commits to Arkansas State

Antonio Fletcher is a 2018 recruit who emerged onto the scene last fall making big plays and thunderous hits for his Martin Luther King Jr. squad, but it still took a minute for college coaches to catch on. Fortunately for Arkansas State fans, it was their coach Trooper Taylor who caught on first and offered the standout safety back on March 12.

About a month later, the 2018 safety had visited the school with his entire family during spring break, and that visit put the Red Wolves easily out front. Fletcher pushed through the recruiting process fielding serious interest at several other FBS colleges’ camps but ended up coming back to Arkansas State in the end.  He also held offers from Nevada, Jackson State, Kent State, App State and Toledo.

So what type of player is Arkansas State landing? For one, they are receiving a self-motivated young man who did not pay a trainer thousands of dollars to work out in an air-conditioned facility. No, Fletcher did work every day this offseason at his house, improving his agility and footwork. He also honed his craft on the Cam Newton 7v7 team where he made a dramatic improvement in his man coverage skills.

He is a fundamentally sound tackler with the hit power of a linebacker despite only being 6′ and around 185 pounds. When Fletcher makes contact with the ball-carrier, he does not shy away and goes through full speed ahead, which results in massive slobberknocking hits.

Fletcher is the fifth commit for Arkansas State in the Class of 2018. He joins fellow Peach State baller Ryan Taylor from Grayson, whom we wrote about earlier this year.
