Last Friday’s Corky Kell 7 on 7 tournament had 30 teams in participation, and showcased a litany of high-powered recruits that are coveted by a lot of the top colleges in the country, but the player who stole the show was Khmari Thompson from Central Gwinnett. The speedy senior receiver made one show-stopping catch after another, and helped his squad win the tournament against an over-matched Archer squad.

In the semifinals Thompson played great against North Gwinnett, where he made two highlight- reel catches in the endzone. The first he ran a fly pattern down the right sideline, and timed a high-pointed catch over the defensive back perfectly. The next he burned the corner on a post route, and tracked down the pass in the middle of the endzone making a remarkable one-handed catch.

The speed-demon from Central Gwinnett was equally impressive against Archer in the championship, where he consistently burned the defense, and stretched the field. Thompson scored at least one 45-yard touchdown where he burned a 3 star corner leaving him in the dust. He showed off his elite quickness on a short button route where he jumped back, made multiple defenders whiff in the process, and then ran up field for additional 10 yards.

Thompson currently has zero offers, and hardly any school has seen him play live outside of Georgia and Kentucky according to his head coach Todd Wofford. Even more surprisingly is that he has not even played football since the 6th grade, but after watching him dominate at the Corky Kell, it was clear that a strong senior season will land him plenty of FBS offers.

Thompson is also a big track star at Central Gwinnett running around a 10.8 100m, so that certainly explains his athletic prowess over his peers. Heading into his senior season we expect Central Gwinnett’s star quarterback Jarren Williams to consistently connect with Thompson and the rest of the talented Central Gwinnett receiving corps, so get your popcorn ready, it is going to be show at Central Gwinnett high school this upcoming fall.
