Slept on Cannady Has Alarm Set for Fall 2019

The entire 2019 offseason is over with, and I bet that most around Region 6AAAA did not see Bailey Cannady, the reigning offensive lineman of the year, going without a D1 offer, but here we are. Reality settles in, but suffice to say, we certainly never saw this coming, but never the less we are on the doorstep of the 2019 season, and Cannady currently holds one offer, and that is from Lagrange College.

Cannady went thru the process, and like so many offensive linemen across the state, they are sill in search of their first D1 offer – an all too common trend we see each year with offensive linemen. Standing at 6’4″, and over 300 lbs., very few offensive linemen in the state show the same raw power that Cannady showcases in the weight room. The Pickens senior boast a back squat that exceeds 600 lbs., which ranks him in the top percentile for our 2020 database.

This offseason, he logged hours at Velocity Football, an offensive line-centric training facility that specializes in the big fellas’. There they focused heavily on hip bend, getting more flexible, and becoming more concise with his footwork in pass protection and run blocking.

For Cannady, his recruiting blues is not lack of effort or really even exposure, but sometimes, colleges recruit offensive linemen at a very slow rate. Why? Not really sure, but it is definitely one of the toughest positions to scout.

Senior film will be the final tell-all for Cannady, but with several years of varsity experience now under his belt, the 2020 recruit seems to be prime to show how to dominate at the high school level. Last year, Pickens was one of the best teams in 4-A with an offensive attack that mowed over defenses with precision, and efficiency. Cannady, who starts at right tackle, was a key reason to their success in 2018, but what we like about him at the college level is his positional versatility to play across the line of scrimmage. Cannady has been trained to play tackle, which gives him good swing potential to play either in college, but also has the ideal body type to play D1 offensive guard too.

It was almost two years ago to this day (Aug. 18th) that we made a recruiting profile for Cannady – he was one of the first from his class to sign-up on our website. Since then, he has added over 50 lbs. to his frame, and still has a lot of room to improve with his core strength too. He is a recruit to keep an eye on this fall, we expect him to have an expanded leadership role for the Dragons, as they once again look to compete as a top 10 team in 4-A.
