Tyus Ready to Take FBS Litmus Test

Keilyn Tyus is ready for his senior year, and if his scrimmage film last weekend vs Manchester is any indication of his 2019 season, then defensive backs better be on notice. Catching a pass at the 40 yard line, Tyus turned up field quickly eluding the first tackler, then cooked the next would-be tackler into BBQ chicken, breaking his ankles, and then streaked down field burning the rest of the defense for a score. First thought: Tyus looks A LOT faster.

The Lamar county class of 2020 athlete has split on both sides of the football at safety and receiver the last few years, but come this fall, Tyus is looking to make a statement at receiver. The Rising Senior Alumni earned strong interest from a number of FBS programs, and ultimately pulled offers from Syracuse and Cincinnati with Tennessee State tagging along from the FCS level too.

At about 6’3″ and 210 lbs., Tyus has the body that most FBS colleges are looking for at a number of positions. As mentioned above, his 2019 film shows a better looking running stride in the open field, and also more importantly, Tyus is playing more out in space instead of getting a lot of reps at slot back in 2018. This is a perfect set-up for the long athlete, and expect him to be a deep threat all season long.

In fact, Tyus doesn’t see anyone stopping him in 2019, “I just got to stay healthy this season; from the look of it, I just don’t see anybody stopping me.”

No doubt, the student-athlete who sports a 3.5 GPA is certain to be a top target among FBS schools across the southeast. The interest could already be mounting, the video he posted last weekend has over 11 k views, and rest assured, some of those views were D1 college coaches.

Keep an eye on the Lamar County athlete, he was one of our first sign-ups from this senior class dating back to 2016, and even then, his FBS upside was obvious. Tyus didn’t make any Preseason All-State honors, he isn’t be ranked by anybody, but the 2020 athlete is certainly someone that can breakthrough and become a coveted recruit.
