Power Fives All Over Caleb Chandler

Less than a week ago, Caleb Chandler of Jefferson High School announced on Twitter that he was opening up his recruitment. The 6’6″, 300-plus-pound offensive tackle committed to Iowa State during the middle of June, but after talking with his parents, Chandler realized he might have rushed his decision.

Chandler, who currently holds 30 offers, was a player we talked about earlier this year with potential to receive a lot of Power 5 interest. When we wrote the article back in February, no Power 5 schools had offered, but boy, has that changed.

Shortly after opening his recruitment back up, Chandler received an offer from the Miami Hurricanes, and earlier today West Virginia became the 30th school to offer the big man.

Chandler’s current Top 6 as of July 6th are Florida, Georgia Southern, Iowa State, Louisville, Virginia Tech and Mississippi State. Some experts believe the Class ’17 offensive tackle could be waiting on an offer from Georgia, which is just down the road from his high school, but with UGA landing another highly touted OL prospect yesterday, that opportunity could be fleeting.

Regardless, Chandler has been one of the top offensive linemen in Georgia for a while, being named All-State two years running. With Miami offering so quickly after he opened up his recruitment, and the familiarity with the coaches, it wouldn’t surprise our staff one bit to see the Hurricanes come into the picture and become a major player during his recruitment.

Expect the powerful offensive lineman to make his decision after taking his official visits this fall. Anything could happen during his recruitment, so stay tuned to @RecruitGeorgia on Twitter for the latest Peach State recruiting news.
