Coffee senior linebacker Jameon Gaskin was one of the state leaders in tackles last season with 166, which earned him All-State honors on our website. Perhaps his most amazing statistic is the 112 solo tackles he amassed on the season. Collecting a total that high can only be attributed to a relentless work ethic, a badge that Gaskin wears proudly.
This offseason the hard-hitting senior camped at the Blue Chip Academy, Kennesaw State, Valdosta State, and Samford. He has worked on a number skills, and will also be on the offensive side of the ball, which he believes has added a new dimension to his repertoire.
“I’ve lost weight and have gotten better with my hands. I’m now a lot faster, and also playing on both sides of the ball, which has put me in better shape, and made me a smarter football player,” Gaskin said
Overall, he’s already seen the fruits of his hardwork, and during the summer he ran a career best 4.68 40 time. The 5’10” 220 pound linebacker is a secure tackler with immense strength. He tears the ball carrier to the ground like a rag doll, and always finds a way to be a part of the activity.
His ability to anticipate the play is a major reason why. Gaskin shades toward the play right when the ball is snapped, and is very hard to fool on play fakes. He is built like a brick wall and squats an impressive 565 pounds while also power cleaning 365 pounds.
Gaskin goals for this season are simple, “I want to be a team leader and give my team a chance to succeed by any means necessary.” After making it to the quarterfinals last year, Coffee will be looking to enter back into the playoffs and even make a deeper run with their talented senior laden team.
