Charlton County’s AJ Bell was an offensive dynamo this season and threw for 2728 yards (65% completion), 31 touchdowns and only 8 interceptions, while also rushing for 706 yards & 9 TD’s. He was one of the most efficient players in Class A with a 119.8 QBR. Bell just recently landed an offer from Valdosta State, and his recruitment should really heat up these final months.

Miller County running back Chris Stovall led Class A Public in rushing with 1701 yards & 23 touchdowns. His 170 yards per game average was tops in all of Class A. He is a bruising back with a Marshawn Lynch “Beastmode” approach to his game. Brandon Mackey from Wheeler County was right on the heels’ of Stovall with 1682 yards rushing. The diminutive junior averaged an amazing 13.2 yards per carry and shows an elite burst right when he touches the football. Clinch County’s Charles McClelland was one of the most efficient players in Georgia this year and had led his team to the state title game. The senior is committed to Cincinnati and has done a masterful job running Clinch’s wing-T offense.

Dooly County receiver Desi Lester led Class A Public with 1036 yards on the season. He went off in the playoffs and totaled 490 yards on 22 catches and scored 6 touchdowns. He led all of Class A with 13 receiving touchdowns as well. Raykwon Anderson from Charlton County was AJ Bell’s top target this year. He finished the season with 941 yards, 63 receptions and 12 touchdowns – placing him 2nd in each category for Class A Public. Branderious Rawlings was a major playmaker this year at receiver with 839 yards, 10 touchdowns & 63 receptions. The senior from Johnson County is a threat to score from anywhere on the field. Washington-Wilkes’ promising junior receiver Deondre Lester ended the year 866 yards receiving on just 53 receptions. The class of 2019 receiver is extremely coordinated and was 3rd in Class A public with 11 TD’s.

Travis Glover from Dooly County is a powerful left tackle who was the cornerstone in their high-powered offense this year. He holds several FBS offers from Oregon State & Mississippi State just to name a few. CJ Leggett has been the pillar of consistency at Macon County the last few years and once again earns All-State honors. The 2018 center does everything needed for his team and is a great leader. His Macon County teammate Christian Meadows joins him on this All-State team. The behemoth lineman has been a long time commit to Florida State and is a pancake factory out there on the field. Devin Vicks has been an impressive two-way player for Mitchell County. He is an athletic player at center who uses his hustle and determination to best his man. Austin Connor cleared the way for one of Class A’s leading rushing attacks. The senior from Marion County is a devastating blocker and heavily slept on in terms of recruiting. Cade Ridley from Commerce does an excellent job of playing low and attacking the defense. He is your prototypical triple option lineman, and is very efficient at getting the defender down.

Abisai Gutierrez from Macon County displays consistent power sending the ball back into the endzone for touchbacks. He was an All-Region kicker and was reliable knocking in PAT’s for his squad.  Bo Lawson from Dooly County had himself a special junior season where he totaled over 2500 yards passing and 1500 yards on the ground. The prolific dual threat is a cool customer running a spread offense and super elusive with the ball in his hands.

Moving over to the defensive side of the ball where John Mincey from Clinch County will lead off. The dominating senior is the best defensive lineman in Class A Public, showing an array of pass-rush moves and power getting to the ball carrier. Marion County’s small but quick nose tackle Lorenzo Ramsey led all of Class A with 148 tackles and amazingly 91 solo tackles on the season. The senior averaged 12.3 tackles per game at his defensive tackle spot. Raeshawn Walton from Manchester had a stellar year with 67 tackles, a whopping 30 tackles for loss and 14 sacks – which led all defensive tackles in Class A. Marlon Jackson from Irwin County is a 6’5″ pass-rusher who terrorized opposing offenses. He is really quick off the ball and his length allows to him disrupt a team’s passing attack. Qua Mahone is another dominating lineman from Manchester. The senior who just picked up an offer from Tennessee finished the year with 72 tackles, 30 tackles for loss, and 12 sacks.

GJ Douglas from Miller County plays the game with a ton of passion and excitement. The 5’11” senior flies all over the field and ended the season with 131 total tackles. Peyton Mercer is a big sleeper in Georgia who played a key role for Emanuel County Institute’s run in the playoffs. The senior was arguably the best player on his squad, and in the state semifinals he totaled 19 tackles against Irwin County. Jontavious Ferguson was a tackling machine this year for Manchester. The extremely talented senior ended up with 122 on the year, to along with 26 tackles for loss and 7 sacks.  Malik Barnes was right above Ferguson with 123 tackles on the year.  The big-hitting Mitchell County junior averaged 12.3 tackles per game and had 74 solos on the year. Another Clinch player to make the All-State team is Trezman Marshall. The do-it-all junior is one of the most dominating forces out on the field in Class A Public and can take over the game in all three aspects.

Manchester senior Kalil Brawner finished the year with 3 interceptions to go along with 70 tackles. The playmaker also played on offense where he had 800 yards of total offense. Dewaun Jones from Pelham was tied for Class A public’s interception lead with 5 on the season. The slender cornerback has a long running stride and can make up ground on the receiver in a blink of an eye. Joining him for that interception lead is Mt. Zion-Carrollton’s CJ Ackles who finished the year with 49 tackles, 5 interceptions and two forced fumbles on defense. The senior played all over the field for his squad and was voted Region Player of the Year. James Mock spent a lot of time on the offensive side of the ball this season starting at quarterback, but was also one of the better defensive backs in the area. The big-hitter plays tight physical defense and currently holds offers from Georgia Southern, Troy and NCCU.

Treutlen’s Trevor Byrd takes the punter spot. The junior average 35.6 yards per punt and had a long of 51 yards. Washington-Wilkes senior Gian Davis led all of Class A averaging over 30 yards per kick return. The senior had a 97-yard scamper in an important late-season game against Aquinas.

  12. CJ Ackles played 5 different positions on the field. He led the offense as starting QB, led the defense at CB, averaged 45 yards a punt as the starting punter, was on both the kick-off return team and punt return.. He was key to leading his team to the semifinals by beating the #1 ranked team in the state. If that isn’t player of the year, I am not sure what is.
