Zanders Blocks Your Socks Off

For the second year in a row, Christon ‘Tuga’ Zanders wins the Lineman of the Week on the website. The Week 4 winner was dominant in their 12-7 win over Lanier County.

In a game where each possession was significant, Telfair County needed to control the line of scrimmage. It was imperative, and luckily, they have Preseason All-State junior Christon Zanders to lean on.

“My junior year is going great. We are currently preparing for region play to accomplish our goal of winning a region championship,” Zanders said.

Truthfully, Zanders dominates both sides of the line of scrimmage. Last Friday, he was tossing bodies and causing general mayhem in the trenches, utilizing his powerful 6’2″ 285 lbs. frame to stand up the opponents.

That’s a major credit towards his work during the offseason, where Zanders focused on improving his football IQ.

“I have improved my in-game football IQ since last year. I’m seeing a lot of things I wouldn’t have noticed on the field last year and that has made me a better player,” he said.

The junior’s physicality, especially with his hands at the point of attack has violent repercussions for whoever he lines up against. College programs love to see a tenacious blocker like Zanders. Speaking about recruiting, Zanders gave a quick update.

“Recruiting is going great, and yes, I’ll be taking visits this fall,” he said.

We feel that D1 programs will be enamored with Zanders’ strength and wide frame to control space. Whether he plays offense or defense, that’s a debate for college coordinators, but with his incredible toughness, you have a separating factor that puts the junior above his peers. Zanders’ mindset on the field exemplifies the kind of lineman you look for in the trenches.

You can see why Telfair County is a program that is always tough to beat, especially as the season matures later into the school year. They were a state semifinalist in 2023 and could be rounding form again in 2024, so be sure to keep an eye out on Zanders by following our Twitter/X page @RecruitGeorgia and for everything else involving Georgia high school football.
