Westminster senior QB Michael Buhay played great in a Week 4 victory over GAC. The 6’2″ signal-caller threw for 318 yards and had four total touchdowns, helping his team to a 34-13 win.
Due to his great Week 4 performance, Buhay was named a standout on the website and recently voted the Player of the Week. With the program 2-2 on the season, and Buhay creating a vertical dynamic with his arm that is atypical at Westminster, the Wildcat faithful have so much to be excited about.
“So far, my senior year has gone very well. As a team, we sit at 2-2, but we are just a couple of plays away from being 4-0. Nonetheless, we are showing steady improvement each week as a team as we prepare for region play,” Buhay said.
Through 4 games, Buhay has thrown for 804 yards and 8 passing touchdowns with 2 more on the ground. The senior is the team’s leading rusher, while also executing the offense efficiently, spreading the football to the many talented Wildcat receivers.
Buhay’s progress has made him one of the top passers in 4A, and that’s a major credit to the training he did last offseason.
“From my junior to senior year, I have definitely improved the most as a passer while in the pocket. It’s something I really focused on over the summer during training with QB Country.” Buhay continued, “However, I also have to give credit to my offensive line, my receivers, and Coach Salimi, our offensive coordinator, who have all been outstanding this year and certainly helped to make our offense very difficult to defend.”
The senior doesn’t just play football. With a 6’2″ and 205 lbs. frame, Buhay is also a standout basketball and lacrosse player at Westminster. We asked if the senior’s diverse background in sports provides an advantage at the QB position.
“I absolutely think playing multiple sports has given me an advantage as a QB. Of course, it’s helped me become a better all-around athlete, but the benefits go beyond that. For example, playing basketball and lacrosse has benefited my vision, quick decision-making, and ability to perform under pressure, which are all critical skills that transfer directly to the football field as a quarterback,” Buhay said.
From our perch, Westminster is an underrated team in 4A that will make noise during the playoffs. A major advantage, of course, is Buhay, who provides a dual-threat dynamic that is among the best in the whole classification.
Beyond the gridiron, Buhay is an excellent student and has tested out with a 34 on the ACT. For college programs across the country, we feel that the 2025 passer should be an attractive prospect to pursue.
“Recruiting is going well, I’ve picked up multiple offers so far, but things are definitely starting to heat up as we get further into my senior year. More importantly, I want to thank all of the coaches who have reached out to give me a chance to play at the next level because it has truly been my dream ever since I started playing football as a kid,” he said.
Millsaps College offered earlier this week, and Buhay has a visit planned to Davidson on October 5th. He said that more are in the process of getting scheduled.
Considering his great start to the season, Buhay will be a 2025 prospect to watch closely, so be sure to follow @RecruitGeorgia on Twitter/X to see his latest highlights, recruiting news and so much more on the prospect and players across the state of Georgia.
