Selfless senior Roland Grimmett has earned a starting spot at Westlake this season and is making the most of the opportunity. The 6’4″, 285 lbs. senior is lining up primarily at right tackle and performing textbook blocks that routinely send defenders to the ground.
Last week against Carrollton, Grimmett had the best game of his career blocking, sending guys reeling to the ground with powerful blocks on the edge. The senior made a spot on the bully squad, the performers on the offensive line each week, and 24 hours later Grimmett was voted the OL of the week.
The big announcement tracks an excellent start to the season where Grimmett has produced 21 pancake blocks.
“So far, my senior year has been great, both academically and on the field. It’s my final season at Westlake, so I’m just trying to leave it all out there. I’m focused on maintaining a high level of consistency,” Grimmett said.
Grimmett worked hard this offseason to play at this level, and we routinely received updates while the 2025 offensive lineman visited various college camps during the summer. His focus and preparation have met a golden opportunity, and he is taking advantage of it.
“Where I’ve improved the most is in my footwork and overall technique. I’ve been working hard on getting faster off the line and keeping my pad level lower to gain more leverage,” he said.
The senior is tenacious blocking, keeping after the defender until the whistle is blown. He is doing a great job of driving his legs through the block, and his quality film suggests that Grimmett could play across the line of scrimmage. His blocking is relentless, which provides a key advantage beyond having excellent size.
“My mindset on the field is simple: dominate every play, stay focused, and trust my preparation. It’s about bringing intensity but also playing smart and staying disciplined.”
Grimmett’s relentless effort spans beyond the football field, and we have noticed that his networking online has paid dividends with his college recruiting. The senior has seen a strong push from local programs over the last few months and spoke about the great opportunities from these programs.
“College recruiting has been going really well! I’m grateful to already have 11 offers. I’ve visited several schools, including Morehouse College, Tuskegee University, Clark Atlanta University, Reinhardt University, and Lenoir-Rhyne University. I’m taking my time to find the right fit both academically and athletically. I’m excited about the future and blessed to have the opportunity to play at the collegiate level. My dreams are coming true,” he said.
College prospects should take note of Grimmett’s approach to the college recruiting process. Instead of sitting back, he has been proactive, which credit to his family, especially his mother, Sojourner, who seems to pour her heart into his development both on the field and off.
That level of effort coupled with Grimmett’s great qualities as a student-athlete checks off a lot of boxes for college coaches, and you can see his recruitment continuing to blossom, so be sure to check out @RecruitGeorgia on Twitter/X to hear the latest on him and athletes everywhere in Georgia.
