Milton High School hosted one of the MVP Camps last weekend, where some of the best talent across the state assembled and competed. Greenbrier’s Cole Trupp was among the participants looking to be recognized, and when the 6’2″ 225 lbs. linebacker sprinted up to 20.2 MPH, he certainly achieved well-deserved attention.
Trupp ranked third among the top five athletes running and was one of two linebackers to make the list. Considering his D1 caliber frame, top-end speed, along with his All-State caliber production during the 2024 season, Trupp showcases the athletic upside to play at the FBS level.
In fact, both in-state schools have reached out, and Trupp has a visit planned with UGA this weekend.
“I’m looking forward to seeing the campus and facilities of a high-caliber program. A lot of my family has gone to UGA, so it is awesome to start this recruiting process,” he said.
Trupp followed up, “I’m planning on a visit to Georgia Tech very soon, as well as some other schools that have shown real interest.”
Although Trupp doesn’t have all of the details from the MVP Camp, he did say that he slipped on the shuttle and that his best time is in the low 4.0 range. That is more than impressive for an athlete of his size. Jogging back to our old combine data, and that would rank Trupp in the top % of athletes in terms of agility.
He is an explosive athlete, managing to lead his region in tackles with 103 while also tallying 17 total touchdowns on offense. Major weightroom gains have been made this offseason where Trupp recently power cleaned over 300 lbs and wouldn’t be surprised to see him hit around 330 lbs. before the season starts.
The time spent this offseason should pay dividends for the 2025 season, which is a focal point for the rising senior.
“This coming season is a big one for our team following the first year with our new coach, Sean Tiernan. The plan is to continue building on the team and go win a Region championship. I’m excited to see what we can do next season,”
On-field success creates recruiting opportunities, but Trupp’s time is coming soon. His trainer, Bret Shugarts, believes “he just needs that first offer” for everything to take off. With a 4.0 GPA and the leadership qualities to be recognized as the team captain junior year, Trupp has the skills every high-academic program should be looking for in a student-athlete.
His recruitment should catch on soon enough. The evaluation period is just around the corner, and college coaches across the country will be on the road, so be sure to follow @RecruitGeorgia on Twitter/X to hear the latest on Trupp and athletes across the state of Georgia.
