Steven Krajewski – “The Big Stage is Set”

Steven Krajewski is possibly the biggest sleeper in the Peach State, and he plays for Colquitt County. Now, most people would scoff at that comment because it seems unfathomable, especially considering the Packers have produced over 30 FBS signees over the last eight seasons. But if you don’t get the opportunity to be a full-time starter until your senior season, there is a lack of film for college recruiters to evaluate.

Krajewski and his family moved south from Macomb Township, Michigan, last April after his father retired with over 20 years on the police force. Initially, they thought a move to Hoover, Alabama, would be their new destination, but in the end, they picked the cotton gem of the south—Moultrie, Georgia.

Colquitt County is no ordinary high school when it comes to football. Legendary coach Rush Propst has led the Packers to a 90-25 record over the last eight seasons, which includes back-to-back 15-0 state championships and an additional five trips to the semifinals or finals. Last year’s 8-5 record and a trip to the quarterfinals was an anomaly as far as Packers fans are concerned.

It’s not like Krajewski has never played in a varsity game. As a sophomore, he started two games for Michigan power Brother Rice, and he did play in seven games for the Packers last season, completing 20 of 28 passes (71%) for 292 yards and five touchdowns with no interceptions. Krajewski is a statuesque 6-foot-4, 205 pounds, but he showed wheels as well, rushing for 95 yards and a score on just 14 carries.

“Number one, this kid is a tremendous talent and his work ethic is second to none,” Propst said of Krajewski. “This guy is playing with a chip on his shoulder because he got a late start here last year and didn’t have enough time to grasp our complicated offense. Make no mistake, when he got here he was physically ready to take the job but just needed a little seasoning in our system.”

Lack of playing time hasn’t stopped this young quarterback from going out and displaying his talents as a potential star at the next level. So far this spring, he has hit the Nike Opening, Under Armour, MVP and NUC camps. At the latter two, he earned Quarterback MVP and Overall Camp MVP. He still has one more spring camp to hit, and that’s the Rivals Three Stripe Camp in Atlanta on April 22.

The lack of varsity film hasn’t stopped colleges from taking notice of Krajewski. Appalachian State, Auburn, Georgia State, Louisville, Michigan State, Ole Miss, UCF and Virginia are all showing strong interest.

“I’m told by Coach Propst that at least 15 to 20 colleges will be coming through during spring ball to see me throw,” Krajewski said. “I haven’t decided on which college camps to attend yet, but I really like the way Georgia State, Louisville, UCF and Virginia are recruiting me, so they will most likely be places I will camp.”

One thing college recruiters will not have to worry about is academics. Krajewski currently boasts a 3.8 overall GPA and scored a 22 on his first take of the ACT. But with interest from Ivy League schools such as Harvard and Yale, he intends on retaking the ACT with the goal of attaining a 28.

“This is my 37th year coaching and I don’t know if I’ve ever seen a kid more under-recruited,” Propst said. “In my mind, he is a DI Power Five player that college coaches really need to do their homework on. They need to find out why he hasn’t started until his senior season. Steven Krajewski to me is a lot better than several kids, who have multiple offers, I’ve watched at Nike and Under Armour camps.”

Recruiting has to take a back seat for Krajewski since he is now the leader of the most high-profile team in Georgia. Gone from last year’s squad are the Packers’ three leading receivers. But he will not be alone as both leading rushers, Daijon Edwards and Ty Leggett, are back as well as shifty slot receiver Cam Singletary.

“We just have to jell more as a team and be more like a family,” Krajewski said. “We’ll be a young team that will have to mature quickly, but we have the talent to win games.”

“Jell quickly” is an understatement, as the Packers have a killer schedule loaded with big-time opponents. Krajewski will be thrown into the fire on Aug. 19 versus North Georgia power Norcross in the Corky Kell Classic. The Packers will then host non-region games versus Vista Murrieta (Calif.), Tucker (Ga.), Roswell (Ga.) and, finally, Class AAAAAA defending champion Valdosta (Ga.).

The Packer faithful only expect one thing, and that’s a state championship in 2017. Krajewski has all the physical tools to be a great player, but only time will tell. I wouldn’t bet against what Propst has to say about his budding star signal-caller.

  1. Propst is one of the biggest recruiters in high school football. He doesn’t have what it takes to build a team from local talent.

    1. Yeah, he went up to Michigan to find his next QB… right. Better come with some real evidence on this site or I will shoot you down every day of the week! NEXT!

  2. Propst 2014 and 2015 championship players were all born and raised in moultrie

Chase Parrish the starting QB nor was the backup QB 2016 starter weren’t born and raised in Colquitt County nor Moultrie. Stop trying to selling lies when the facts are out there. I will be right here all day long waiting for you or Mr. David Ewalt to try to shoot me down because I know either of you all can. Good day.

No need to reply back after reading this. Copy and paste it in your browser and be quiet. Good night.

    1. Wait he transferred into the district before high school even started? That happens everywhere in the state for every high school. Also, good to know Kiel Pollard (one Probst top recruits ever) was home grown. Have a good one Richard!

I can see you aren’t good at reading comprehension nor following along very well. I don’t care about Kiel Pollard at all, but the lies fans like you must tell and hold on to for the sake of making sure you protected someone when you know the truth. You still have a problem with spelling the coach name. Amazing. Although your name has changed your ability to spell the coach name correctly is still a problem on this site. I don’t miss the Scout.com days at all. Hopefully, you grow up and stop being the enforcer for stupidity when the truth is known. It is truly sad to see grown men stand behind foolishness and try to intimidate others while holding on to a lie. I am praying for you for sure, Mr. Ewalt(not your real name but so be it).

    1. What are you talking about? My name is David Ewalt and I’m the founder and CEO of Recruit Georgia Sports LLC. The whole purpose of this article was to draw attention to Steven Krajewski and it worked. He was offered by Syracuse about a week later. I’m not a fan of Colquitt County or any high school in Georgia for that matter.

I’m not sure why you are so hung up on what is right and wrong when it comes to transfers, but your opinion is not the deciding factor, so you can stop telling me to be quiet on my website, because I can write whatever I want when I please. On the flip side, I can delete anything you write, but have chose not to because I believe in freedom of speech and think everyone should have the right express themselves on my website. I hope the clears up anymore confusion Richard, have a good one!

Sad, to say, I don’t care about the rules when it comes to transfers cause I don’t have anything to do with what is wrong with high school football in the state of Georgia or on the national level. Until the rules are changed there will always be coaches that bend the rules. My problems are the lies that are told to cover it up when almost all the elite programs in the state are doing exactly the same thing around the state. NO reason to even speak on the subject, especially when the truth is out there. Another thing I know you delete my posts and that is your prerogative when it comes to your site. But don’t try to misguide others who are speaking on this topic when it is a known fact. It is what it is when it comes to having an opinion no matter right or wrong. Be good and I have no problems with what is done in Moultrie nor Colquitt County cause I have made my choice and I am good with the choice I have made, no matter what others think.
