Staples Commits to Campbell

MORE COMMITMENT NEWS

Athletic Stephenson defensive tackle Ivan Staples committed to Campbell last night. The first team All-Region defensive lineman took an official visit to Campbell’s campus last weekend, and last night the senior tweeted his official commitment note:

The Campbell coaching staff made a strong push for the athletic 6’2.5″ 285-pound defensive tackle over the last week. They visited Staples for an in-home visit on January 18th, which set up the official visit this last weekend. Staples was receiving interest from several other mid-majors, especially from Presbyterian, but the Camels coaching staff logged in the hours, and built a good relationship.

Campbell is getting a very athletic defensive tackle who should do well at the FCS level. He uses active hands to knock the offensive lineman off balance, which allows him penetrate deep into the backfield for a tackle for loss. We really like how he moves laterally, especially while leveraging the offensive lineman, and stretching out the play with outstanding pursuit.

Staples joins another Peach State athlete Kris Montague (OLB from Gainesville) as Campbell’s two Georgia commits, but we expect a few more to become Camels in the next week. When asked about how it felt to be done with the recruiting process Staples exclaimed,” It feels good! I worked hard and I’m glad the Campbell coaching staff took notice.”
