Sackmaster Vernon Commits to Army

Tyler Vernon, one of the leading sackmasters in Georgia, committed to Army this morning.

The senior Vernon announced via Twitter:

“Blessed to announce that I am committing to play college football at Army West Point!”

Vernon had offers from Navy, Air Force, and Arkansas State, but it was Army’s coach Monken and recruiting coach Brent Davis, landing their 2nd Georgia athlete (Felix Harper commits).

According to Gwinnett Prep Sports, the senior defensive end had a terrific performance last Friday against regional foe Norcross, tying his own school record of 5 sacks. Vernon has totaled 11 sacks on the season and now upped his Mill Creek record to 31 career sacks.

Army is landing a top-flight player from one of the toughest regions in the country. Vernon is battle-tested against consensus 3 & 4 star offensive tackles from all across the state. The star defensive end’s motor is one of the best in Georgia and his relentless pursuit of the ball carrier is remarkable.

Mill Creek is a consensus top 5 team in Georgia and currently 9-0 during the 2015 season. They expect to make a deep run into the Class AAAAAA Playoffs and Vernon figures to play an integral part.

Vernon is the 27th commit for Army in the 2016 recruiting period.
