Player Spotlight: Junior RB Grant Walker

A 2017 running back to keep an eye on is Grant Walker. The well built running back (6’1″ 193) from Decatur has had a very strong season; rushing for 1,031 yards and 10 touchdowns.

Walker tailors his game after Buffalo Bills star RB LeSean McCoy. Like his idol, he is very good at picking his way through a hole and then outrunning the defense for a touchdown.

He is an excellent one cut back, that has very good balance and body lean when toting the rock. On some plays he drags defenders over 5 yards for additional yardage. Walker has a terrific frame and should continue to fill out, potentially reaching 215-220 lb range.

The Decatur back proclaims his strengths on the gridiron is “my speed and footwork.”

His speed was on full display for a long touchdown late in the 4th quarter against Towers High School, a play that the junior has dubbed the highlight of his season.

“I had a 73 yard TD and made a few people miss.” Walker on his game against Towers.

Over the summer, multiple FBS colleges were interested in the Decatur back’s talents, and that has absolutely carried over into the fall.

“The schools I have heard from the most are: Purdue, Georgia Southern, Georgia State, Mississippi State, Florida State, and Georgia.”

So far, the talented 2017 back has planned to visit “Georgia State when they play South Alabama and Florida State when they play Chattanooga.”
