Recruiting Update for All-State RB Colby Wood

Jefferson High School junior Colby Wood has been one of the most impressive running backs in the state of Georgia the last two years. During his varsity career, Wood has romped for 4,237 yards rushing, 65 TDs and 558 yards receiving while also posting 70 tackles and eight interceptions.

His amazing output is a testament to his natural ability as a football player but also his mental toughness. At only 5’9″, Wood does not exactly stand out on the field until the ball is snapped, but that’s when the junior shines.

Colby WoodHis slippery running style, good balance and sheer determination make him one of the hardest backs to tackle, and that was obvious again last week at Rising Seniors. Coming from a lower classification and being a tremendous competitor, Wood was excited to show out against the best in Georgia.

Wood said of playing in the Rising Seniors game, “There was a lot of competition to go up against. I had a blast! It was a great opportunity, very thankful.”

The heady running back made some really tough runs during the game, breaking tackles from prospects that many recruiting experts consider to be 4-star prospects.

With the evaluation period just around the corner, we asked Wood how his recruitment is currently going. “Pretty good! I still got two offers from Navy and Mercer. Auburn, Pitt, Miami, Virginia, and a couple more schools are interested too. They love my film and everything.”

The 2018 recruit plans to have a busy offseason going to camps, workouts and junior days while also preparing for the ACT in January. Wood is currently at 179.2 pounds but plans to increase his weight another 10 pounds while also increasing his speed.

Wood is certainly a name to keep an eye on this offseason and should receive a lot of recruiting attention from colleges all across the country.
