Welcome to another edition of the Recruiting Recap! Thanks for stopping by, and if you are new here, this is a feature where recap all of the weekend’s offers, commitments and of course our sleeper of the day!
I hope everyone had a great weekend! More intrasquad scrimmages took place over the weekend and football has started in several states surrounding Georgia. With the September 4th start date still in place for most of the counties in Georgia, it looks like we will be having some live football here very soon!
Cases are down, but please continue to wear a mask, and let’s have a great fall! – David
2021 Calvary Day
Scoop: Versatile back with good running instincts and is able to hit top speed quickly. Daniel is very good at reading the defense and getting big chunks of yardage.
2021 New Manchester
Scoop: Huge wide receiver with long athletic profile that would usually warrant additional FBS interest. Big time pick-up for Samford here, we had Fields projected to go FBS.
Scoop: Consistent and smart defensive tackle who puts in some major work this offseason. Uses hands very well, and gets nice leverage on the offensive linemen.
Scoop: Speed receiver that is a smooth operator out there on the field. Does a very good job of gauging the pass mid-flight and making proper adjustments. He’s another receiver we had projected higher, so definitely a steal for EKU’s staff.
2021 Peachtree Ridge
Allegheny & Heidelberg
2021 Pace Acd.
2023 Blessed Trinity
2022 Rabun Gap
2023 Mill Creek
Sleeper of the Day
2021 Union Grove
Barrett moves pretty well, uses his feet to get out to his spot and shows good energy getting his man down. He’s quicker than expected. Moves well in pass coverage, not that his team passed it a ton in 2019. He’s a fluid athlete, shows very good energy getting to the 2nd level. Actually really impressed watching him run in the open field. Definitely can see some option teams taking interest in Barrett. Needs to get a good bit stronger, that would make a big difference in how he gets his man down. Good flexibility, keeps a fairly flat back but does tend to block to high. Union Grove runs some pretty big splits with their OL, and that really plays into the quickness of Barrett, and he actually executes some difficult blocks. I’m impressed with the 2021 recruit. He needs to continue work on leverage, but do like his hand placement. He’s made a nice jump with his weight and now up to 275 lbs., really think more D1 schools should join Morehead State in pursuit of Mr Barrett.
