Recruiting Recap 8/18

Welcome to another edition of the Recruiting Recap! Thanks again for stopping buy, and if you are new here, this is a weekday feature that we post around noon that recaps all of yesterday’s happenings around the state.

Today’s recap will be on the quicker side, but we’ll have all of yesterdays offers and commitments to go along with our sleeper of the day. College coaches, if you are struggling with the class of 2021 please reach out and we can assist you!

Also our team pages are continuing to be made, Thomas County Central was last night and we’ll have more coming throughout the week!

Hope everyone is doing well and staying safe! – David

Commitments

Justin Weaver
2021 Decatur
Army

Scoop: Weaver is a versatile athlete who splits snaps at WR and CB for Decatur. He has good acceleration, a smooth running stride and nice size at 5’11”. Weaver is set to be a good cornerback at the next level, he shows pretty quick hips and generally good instincts at the position. Army continues to pick-up commits here in the state and land another good one in Weaver. The staff had to beat out Navy for this commit, so there is an added caveat to this recruiting win.

Sleeper of the Day

Jace Bennett
2021 Banks Co.

Bennett tested out really well at our combine in the 2019 offseason. With a nice low explosive attacking mindset at the linebacker position, Bennett shows very good acceleration and agility. Bennett is a solid ATH where he can accelerate quickly to his top speed. He has the agility that we typically see in a defensive back honestly, and is a good fit to play in a 3-5-3 or 4-2-5 scheme. Plays with a passion for the game and plays where his team needs on the field. Very good open field tackler, drops his hips and drives his legs through the ball carrier. Well trained football player. 7.03 L-drill time was one of the best during our combine series in 2019, and measured out well as a OLB at the next level. 9′ broad jump suggest an explosive element to Bennett, and think he can be an instant impact player on special teams. Impressive motor. Bennett had over 100 tackles his junior year and is now over 220 lbs – clsoer to 230 lbs. He has made some really nice gains in the weight room with almost a 100 lbs. increase to his bench and squat in the last year. Crazy increase in strength, Bennett is just blowing up in size lately, and is set for a huge senior year. Bennett currently has offers from Notre Dame College and Reinhard, but in our opinion he deserves more looks from D1 programs. It’s hard to find a linebacker with his agility and size – we really believe he is one of the more slept on linebacker recruits here in the 2021 class.
