Sleeper of the Day

Ricky Simmons
2025 Shiloh
Quarterback

Simmons has been a prospect on our radar for a long while, probably longer than honestly any other QB. Simmons was seemingly born with a football in his hand. He throws the ball with good zip and his shoulder rotates well into his follow-through. Simmons has developed more as a dual-threat passer, and his junior film showcases his ability to scramble outside and smartly move the chains. He’s not an explosive per se, but shows plenty of good quickness and has excellent field awareness. Simmons uses that same quickness to get around in the pocket and elude the pass rush. He does a good job of feeling pressure and drifting away from the pursuit but also has the acumen to step up into the pocket and deliver a strong pass. Simmons’ placement with his passes is nicely timed. He lofts over the 2nd level of the defense against the zone with good touch and makes some excellent back-shoulder throws down the sideline that are extremely well-placed. From a short to intermediate level, Simmons is supremely talented and I’m consistently impressed with how well he threads the needle of a zone defense. While he is surgical at these levels, colleges will want to see passes that exceed 50 yards on film, and that kind of in-game production is not on film. At 5’11” and 175 lbs., Simmons should be able to arrive at 190 lb during his college career, and that added muscle will undoubtedly add a more explosive element to both his legs and arm. This offseason has been no different for Simmons. He is working hard at college camps and offseason OTA’s with the team. I suspect this will be his best year of football yet, and help lift Shiloh back up to a winning record in 2024.

Commitments

Jake Thorner
2025 Walton
Wofford

Thorner’s 144 tackles in 2023 were among the best in class 7A, and he heads into this fall a likely All-State candidate, and unquestioned defensive leader for the Raiders. Thorner is a smart linebacker with an old-school approach in the middle. The 6’3″ 225 lbs. backer does a great job reading the play, consistently jumping the gaps and unloading a huge tackle. Wofford really continues to kill it this summer with Georgia recruits, and Thorner seems like another ideal fit for the Terriers.

Matthew Wells
2025 Trinity Christian
North Alabama

Matthew Wells camped great at North Alabama earlier this month and was offered promptly after. The 2025 offensive lineman out of Trinity Christian didn’t waste too much time after earning his first D1 offer and committed this morning, July 26th. The 6’3″ 265 lbs. center plays with great physicality, especially up top with his hands where he is really strong at the point attack.

Evan Gober
2025 Brookwood
Austin Peay

Brookwood tight end Evan Gober commits to Austin Peay today. The 6’3″ 230 lbs. pass-catcher is tough to bring down after the catch, spinning out of tackles and consistently churning his legs through contact. The same determination and leg drive equally help Gober as a blocker, where his film showcases impactful blocks in space. Gober is the type of physical player on offense that coach Faris covets and should fit seamlessly into their offensive attack.

Three ‘n Out

The Atlanta Touchdown Club came out with their preseason All-State teams. Down below we have their Offense team attached, which they announced yesterday, and the defensive team they announced on Wednesday. Always a great All-State selection by the people over at the Atlanta TD Club, so go checkout everything they have posted on their Twitter this week.

Rising junior Carter Spence out of Ola drilled a 60-yard field goal yesterday, which was a new personal record. The junior is just off the heels of a Kohl’s Kicking Camp in Gatlinburg where Spence hit 11/12 field goals. Spence is ranked a 4-star kicker and a 4.5-star punter and is a strong student with a 4.09 GPA.

Records are meant to be broken, and after Darnell Kelly is done playing at Peachtree Ridge, he is sure to have set many. The 2026 QB is just going through the motions in the video down below, but after watching Kelly for 5, maybe 6 years now, the progression has been impressive. Kelly showcases light footwork and a succinct nature in his movements; which can make all of the difference in getting a pass off or not while in the pocket. Kelly threw for roughly 2700 yards as a sophomore and is the type of passer who could lead 6A in yards this fall. That potentially could lead to a surprise All-State pick in 6A, granted our prognostication might be a year early. Either way, Kelly continues to be a 2026 QB to watch closely.
