Sleeper of the Day

Braylon Phillips
2025 Bainbridge
Safety

Phillips has been a productive linebacker at Bainbridge who saw a good uptick in his tackle total in 2023 going from 62 to 75. An 80 or 90-tackle season would be expected, but you never know how those totals will be compiled from one year to the next. What we can see is that Phillips is an active linebacker who is disruptive to the offense both on the run or through the air. He closes the gap on the ball carrier, showing good instincts in reading the play and maneuvering around the blocks. Plays with violent hands and gets very good leverage while taking on blocks. Peaks and rips through his opponent. Phillips shows good hip flexibility and looks very agile while in pass coverage. He plays out wide at times, more where a nickel would be, and looks comfortable dropping back in coverage getting good depth, and showing a good feel reading the QB’s eyes. Phillips’ best skill is his tackling though. He does an excellent job gauging his attempt and shows excellent leg drive through contact. The consistency in how quickly he gets the ball carrier down is excellent. Considering he is 6′ and around 195 lbs. (a 10 lbs. increase from last year), Phillips is undersized at linebacker. We like his agility in coverage, but continuing to improve his top-end speed is a priority. He has the upside to be a D1 football player but is better suited to be a strong safety. Phillips is versatile, and that will certainly catch the attention of FBS programs. You have to love his football instincts. Going into his senior year, Phillips holds offers from Charleston Southern, who putting on a full-court press for his commitment, and Kennesaw State.

Commitments

Micah Pryor
2025 GAC
Delaware

Pryor is a physical defensive lineman prospect who gets excellent leverage on the offensive lineman and shows hand-quickness to rip through his blocks. The patient high IQ defensive lineman stands at 6’3″ 255 lbs., and has the frame to continue to add a lot of good weight to become a solid SDE at the next level.

Christian Gass
2025 Eastside
Tennessee

Gass became one of the most coveted edge rushers in the class of ’25 before his junior season ended. His wide frame and quick first step suggest that the 6’3″ 210 lbs. linebacker is just scratching at the surface of his potential. He is a quick accelerator to the football with an elite change of direction. Tennessee has a great pass-rusher who shows flashes of dropping back in coverage too. Gass is the type of player who can be All-SEC before his career is over with the Vols.

Cortez Smith
2025 Parkview
Georgia

Smith was getting some reps even as a freshman for Parkview and has been consistently viewed as the top center prospect in the state. Smith shows great urgency getting to the 2nd level. He is explosive in the hips, generating a lot of force on contact, and shows good hand placement. Smith is an excellent run blocker who should thrive in Georgia’s offensive attack.

Elijah Whitaker
2025 Spalding
UConn

Whitaker was a major contributor to one of the best defenses in all of 4A in 2023. The 6’1″ defensive back has a long-running gait and uses his length to disrupt passes. Whitaker does a nice job of timing his break on the pass, cutting underneath, and his hand activity can jar a pass loose even when it looks all but complete.

Khylen Harris-Norman
2025 B.E.S.T. Acd.
SE Missouri State

The 6′ 175 lbs. athlete who also stars in T&F for BEST Academy was a standout in the defensive secondary in 2023. Harris-Norman rotates his hips quickly and shows solid top-end acceleration and good instincts reading the field to be an effective safety for SEMO.

Three ‘n Out

Colquitt County senior Brett Fitzgerald is set and ready to go for a great senior year. Fitzgerald has been the most consistent kicker in the state since he first started as a freshman, and has been named a MaxPreps 2x All-American for his recruiting class. The senior is the #11 kicker in the country according to Kohl’s Kicking. Fitzgerald will look to carry on the tradition of great kickers at Colquitt, which includes his brother Ryan from the class of ’19, who was an All-State kicker in his own right.

Class A DII is not ready for Trion senior Logan Stokes. The 6’4″ jumbo-athlete showed some great ball skills as a receiver and pass-rushing ability as a junior. But now he’s 235 lbs. and a bear to bring down. Stokes is going to be a major problem for opposing defenses, and wouldn’t be surprised to see him get direct snaps on offense either. The senior is set for a big-time season and someone D1 schools need to targeting closely as they finalize their recruiting classes.

We have highlighted a few incoming freshmen for this upcoming season, and we would be remiss to leave out Heritage’s Malakhi Dudley. The 2028 offensive tackle just earned offers from Oklahoma and Arkansas last week. The 6’5″ 320 lbs. lineman is already looks the part, and hasn’t even played a varsity snap just yet. Colleges will be active this fall, and surely more P4 offers are on the horizon.
