Three Heating Up

West Weeks
2021 Oconee Co.

Not to kerfuffle any UVA fans reading this, but Weeks recruitment could certainly see an increase in interest here in the month of June. There is no secret the state is heavy on OLB/SS type prospects, and in a way guys like Edwards, Quinn, Hamilton, and Bryant seem to have all been pushed ahead of Weeks in terms of college offers, which is interesting since Weeks is the most versatile athlete among that group. Our All-State pick was just offered by Stanford yesterday, which puts the Oconee star with 14 P5 offers. With no inside scoop, one would assume that Weeks will remain firmly committed to UVA, after all, he made his decision just last month, but say a few more high-academic P5 offers come into the picture, and that could certainly make things interesting. To put succinctly, I expect more P5 offers here. At 6’2″ and 210 lbs., Weeks is a very intriguing prospect who helped his team to a 4-A state title appearance.

JaMario Clements
2021 LaFayette

Clements’ school typically gets overlooked by colleges, but the 5’10” 190 lbs. back’s tireless work ethic has caught the attention of college programs this offseason. Over the last 30 days Clements has seen offers from Fordham, Western Illinois, Delaware State, Jackson State, and Arkansas State. The rising senior back went over 1000 yards rushing last fall, and we suspect with the amount of work he has put in this offseason that he is in store for an even bigger season. What you have to like about Clements is that he just doesn’t go down easy. He has a good combination of balance and shear determination to eek out extra yardage. A big senior year could really cement his status as a FBS caliber back, so be on the lookout.

Kaleb Cost
2023 Sandy Creek

Cost was offered by Georgia Tech just yesterday, and if you been following the 2023 recruit lately you will have notice an influx of P5 interest. Prior to the GT offer both Boston College and Tennessee offered. His offers are legit, and so is the early varsity film of the 2023 athlete. Cost caught our eye last fall, we wrote down his name as a potential P5 recruit when all of the midseason film was released. Two-sport athlete also excels on the baseball diamond, and you see his excellent hand-eye coordination show out in his football film. What really stands out about Cost is his impressive core strength and body control – it’ll be interesting to see how he develops at defensive back receiver over the next few years. Definitely a 2023 prospect to be watching out for this fall.

Sleeper of the Day

Brady Meitz
2021 North Forsyth

We have heard from local people in the area speak highly of the 2021 signal-caller. He’s pretty nimble in the pocket and put up some big passing numbers in 2019. He does a good job of setting up his feet into his pass. Moves well in the pocket and just has a natural feel getting up field running with the football. Good feel at leading his receivers. Makes very quick reads, and does a nice job of timing his throws too. He has very good vision, and can put the ball on a dime with some of these throws. Really impressed with his accuracy. Meitz is legit with the football. He’s not going to break off long runs but wouldn’t completely ignore his ability to scramble either. Reading the defense is by far his best skill. Meitz does an awesome job of reading the D and finding the open man. He makes some very impressive throws, and honestly he is one of the best QB’s we have scouted from this class. Biggest knock is lack of arm strength for Meitz. Do not see him throw it much further than 50 yards out, and doesn’t have a ton of heat on these short to intermediate passes either. Lack of height at only 6’1″-6’2″ might knock his FBS potential, but personally, I’m thinking he has one of the highest IQ’s at the position in the state, and couple that with some of the best accuracy we have seen too.
