Recruiting Recap 6/18

Welcome to another edition of the Recruiting Recap! Here we will discuss all of yesterday’s commitments/offers, three players who are heating up and of course our sleeper of the day!

Just want to make another quick comment on the coronavirus, and how it’s beginning to uptick back to our all-time highs back in April. I urge everyone to wear a mask, it can drop the transmission of the virus down to nearly 40%, and quite honestly, I’m seeing way too many Georgians not take the appropriate actions. Maybe I’ll look into making an athletic mask for athletes.

Outside of that, I hope everyone is doing great this week! The weather has been awesome with unseasonably colder temperatures, which has been great at reducing the mosquito population. Definitely a fan of that! – David

Three Heating Up

Cole Nelson
2021 Johns Creek

Nelson came out with a top 9 just a few days ago that includes a whole slew of P5 programs. The pass-rusher out of Johns Creek has earned offers from Indiana and Kansas recently, which makes for back-to-back P5 program offering Nelson. With a big time motor and quick hands, the 2021 defensive end prospect could very well attract more P5 interest here the next few weeks.

Anietie Ntekop
2021 Roswell

The FCS offers are starting to mount the last month here for Ntekop. Bryant, North Alabama, Stetson and UT Martin have offered the athletic offensive tackle prospect at Roswell. At 6’4″ and 260 lbs. the rising senior has good length, and definitely an above average athlete for his size. He sprots a 3.7 GPA and 1200 SAT too. I wouldn’t be surprised to see his D1 offers double here over the course of the summer.

Takare Lipscomb
2023 Carrollton

Looking at the 2023 receiver’s film from last fall at Wheeler, and you can see the explosive long frame of Lipscomb really win passed down field for big plays. What impressed even more is the balance and shear raw power he shows on film after the catch, breaking several tackles. Pittsburgh came in with an offer the other day. At 6’2″ 170 lbs., Lipscomb should receive a lot of targets this fall, and is set for a big receiving year in my opinion. It’s a good time for D1 teams to offer despite being a 2023 recruit, mainly due to the fact Lipscomb will have double digit offers for sure this time a year from now.

Sleeper of the Day

Devion Newson
2021 Stockbridge

Newson is a really impressive looking athlete with an FBS caliber body at 6’2″ 200 lbs. He doesn’t complete some of these early catches on film, so not sure why they are the beginning outside of the fact that is shows explosive leaping ability. On defense, he closes fast! Looks really impressive flowing to the football, but tackling fundamentals need some work. Newson mostly lowers his shoulder and just try to blow the ball carrier up – doesn’t wrap or drive his legs too much. Very physical though. When taking on a blocker he drives his legs and shows good agility getting around the blocker too. Very impressed with the explosiveness here for Newson. He’s a really good athlete, who is still feeling out his position even at the HS level. I like his upside a lot at OLB/SS at the next level. Needs to be playing off the edge and attacking the offense. He makes a few plays in coverage – most notably an impressive high-pointed interception on a button route to the sideline. I’m pretty big on Newson honestly. He’s an explosive athlete for sure, and that will always attract D1 programs.
