Recruiting Recap 6/1

Well, what a crazy weekend. Not going to sugarcoat what is going on right now in our country – all of this is gut-wrenching. We live in tough times, and Recruit Georgia is not a platform to discuss systemic issues, so I hope that this recap can at least be a temporary distraction.

So you guys all ready know the drill. This recap will sum up this weekend’s offers, commitments, three players that are heating up and of course our sleeper of the day.

Three Heating Up

Devoris Calvin
2021 Dougherty

Big defensive tackle in south Georgia has been accumulating some D1 interest since about February. He’s quick off the line, and gets into the backfield very quickly for a 290 lbs. athlete. Calvin earned his first offer from Georgia State earlier this year, and since has seen offers from Samford, FAU & UT-Chattanooga. We definitely like his upside a ton, and should be well over 300 lbs. in college with just natural quickness that you cannot teach.

Jaylen Blackwell
2021 Union Grove

We wrote about Blackwell about a month ago, and his recruitment continues to heat up too. Over the last few weeks Blackwell has earned offers from Georgia Southern, Eastern Michigan and Holy Cross on top of 8 offers he held before. The 2021 recruit plays all over the field, and at 6’2″ 190 we think his upside is best on the defensive side of the football, where he shows good physicality and the frame to be around 215 at the next level.

Kyle Efford
2022 Dacula

The 6’2″ 225 lbs. rising junior was one of the best players on Dacula’s state semifinalist team. He played both linebacker and running back – truthfully his upside is higher on the defensive side of the ball. The last week his recruitment has picked up with a duo of P5 offers coming in from Indiana and Iowa State. GT and Vanderbilt have also offered, and it really shouldn’t take much more time before Efford has double digit offers here. Just a pure football player with a great IQ for the game.

Sleeper of the Day

Shakari Denson
2021 Claxton

Denson is a true playmaker playing both defensive back and receiver. He is very good with the football in his hands, and tough to bring down with just on tackler. That toughness projects well as a CB at the next level. Denson has made a few highlight plays over his career, one interception last year that he returned for 65 yards where the whole package was on display. The 2021 recruit just finds away around the football. Nice ball skills going up for the pass or diving for it. Denson is an FBS caliber recruit, his team at Claxton stick in games in a large part due to his playmaking. Probably better suited to play FS in college, but would definitely work him out at CB too, especially given his frame, just needs to continue to work on hip quickness. Biggest thing for Denson this offseason is adding weight and getting strong in the hips specifically.
