Recruiting Recap 5/6

Welcome to another edition of Recruiting Recap! Here we will discuss all of yesterday’s offer, three recruits who are heating up and our sleeper of the day choice as well!

This is a great tool for college coaches during the Covid-19 pandemic, and we hope that it can spark additional recruiting interest in the state of Georgia, but for more detailed recruiting insights please contact recruitgeorgia1@gmail.com for our premium content.

As always, I hope everyone is staying safe out there, and please continue to come back to our weekday feature, which post right before noon Mon-Fri!

Three Heating Up

Nick Hunter
2021 Hapeville Charter

Hunter in our opinion is a no doubt FBS caliber of player, so it doesn’t surprise us to see his first P5 offer in Kansas the other day. The speedy edge rusher also has offers from Gardner-Webb and Western Kentucky in the last year. Hunter has long strides and moving laterally covers a ton of space. He has a nice forward lean flowing to the football. Looks like a prototypical OLB at the next level, just needs to continue to fill out his 6’3″ frame. Expect a lot more FBS schools to jump in here. Hunter is player that the Hapeville staff spoke very highly of since the end of 2019 season.

Marcus Allen
2022 Walton

Allen started to get varsity reps last year as a sophomore, and the big 6’2″ 170 lbs. corner looked very good. Just like his older brother, who is now at GT, Allen is a longer athlete with outstanding tools to work with, but even a better work ethic. His upside is really getting noticed here and the class of 2022 defensive back has earned a couple of P5 offers here recently from Boston College and Wake Forest. Looks like he is continuing to work hard this offseason despite the virus, and has added good weight. Colleges are going to love his frame; Allen has a 78″ wing span and very light feet in coverage.

Caleb Cook
2021 Brunswick

The offers just continue to come in for Cook now. I suppose you could call this a slow burn in terms of heating up, but at this point the 2021 recruit is really starting to see his options grow. High-academics have taken an interest of course. Cook has 3.88 GPA and 27 on the ACT. The 6’3″ 283 offensive linemen is one of the top interior prospects in the state and has received recent offers from Yale, Tenn State, North Carolina Central, East Carolina, Dartmouth, The Citadel, Harvard & Princeton. With the versatility to play either OG or C at the next level, I think more FBS programs will be offering here soon.

Sleeper of the Day

Beau Shugarts
2021 Greenbrier

Shugarts has improve his strength a good bit in just the last 8 months, adding nearly 30 lbs to his frame and now over 250 lbs. There is no doubt that he is filling out his frame well, and there is still plenty room to grow, which makes one wonder, where does Shugarts fit at the college level? Junior year he is slotted to play both defensive end and h-back for his squad. Watching film, and I really like Shugarts ability to get off the line and angle his body around blocks. He has good length, and is able to get leverage then rip thru his blocks. Shugarts is a leader too, taking leadership roles in youth football, and it’s safe to see him stepping up his junior year as a team leader. The 2021 athlete understands his role, plays heads-up football, and does a very good job of pursuing the ball carrier from the backside cleaning up the play. I can see the 2021 recruit continuing to add good weight, and should be over 270 lbs. in college as a SDE. Solid lateral quickness for his frame, and good overall core strength – you can see his background in wrestling and lacrosse ooze thru his football film. Junior year, Shugarts has shown very good energy right off the snap and a lot of good hustle plays with backside tackles – he leads his team with 10 tackles per game. At h-back, he looks very good as a blocker with good strength at the point of attack but also stays engaged and dominates his opponent. Finished off his junior year with 76 solo tackles, 114 total and 22 tackles for loss while also playing some OL too where he had 36 pancakes. He’s hearing from a slew of D1 programs at the moment. Toledo, Army, NC State, Wofford, and Charleston Southern on top of offers from Morehead State, Saint Francis, Tenn Tech and Air Force. My prediction is that Shugarts has a huge start to his senior year and the FBS offers start pouring in here.
