Three Heating Up
Antario Brown
2021 Beach
Is it possible for a player to be heating up after just one big offer? Well the rising senior out of Beach has proven to be name to watch going forward, and you can guarantee that more FBS programs offer after South Carolina now. His hand time 40’s for 4.34 at an MVP Camp back in February and a 4.5 at Kennesaw’s Camp last summer shows that the 5’11” 215 lbs. running back has the frame and explosiveness to be a FBS back. There is certainly a ton of upside here with Brown, and getting in the right system in college could lead to very good productivity at the college level.
Malaki Starks
2022 Jefferson
Starks has been getting P5 interest dating back to last summer really, but seems like the last few weeks he has been on a hot streak with offers. Just yesterday Auburn came in with an offer, and the follows up Virginia Tech, Florida State, Ole Miss, and Nebraska all in the last month. The 6’2″ 190 lbs. athlete is also a standout track athlete. He really plays all over the field for Jefferson, and going into this fall he will probably be getting full time reps at QB. No doubt, the 2022 recruit is one of the best in his class in terms of pure athleticism, and should be heavily coveted over the next year.
Aubrey Smith
2022 Buford
The whole class of 2022 out of Buford seems to be getting non-stop good news, and Aubrey Smith is definitely part of that group. The OLB/DE reminds of us Jackson Powell to some extent, but appears to have a bigger frame, and already showing more versatility at the linebacker spot. He has outstanding acceleration getting into the backfield. P5 programs have jumped on board as of recent with Nebraska, Auburn, Indiana, Michgian State, and Ole Miss all offering as of late. Smith is also a track athlete at Buford, and that explosive first step definitely translates well to the football field. At 6’2″ and 220 lbs., Smith has a powerful frame already, and it will be interesting how he continues to fill out. He shows a lot of versatility on film, and more FBS are going to like the plug and playability of Smith.
Sleeper of the Day
Christian Johnson
2021 Flowery Branch
Johnson has a 6’9″ wing span and is nearly 6’5″, so his length is definitely an advantage, but he also plays with a ton of urgency to boot. The stand-up edge rusher has above agility and is pretty effective defending the read option. Change of direction is good, cannot express that enough. Very slender frame, and has gained about 10 lbs. over the last year. Johnson sheds blocks easily, he should continue to add weight over the next year, and even at 225 his production could really spike senior year. Nice energy coming from behind in pursuit. Needs to get strong in the hips and quicker out his stance. Flexibility needs to improve. Johnson has some considerable upside as a pass-rusher, he needs to quicker with his hands getting off blocks, but also like to see him continue to cross train even and play some OLB too, especially if weight gain doesn’t improve much. Right now, Johnson is hearing from a slew of D1 programs, but still looking for offers. We definitely think the offer action is coming soon, there are just not too many athletes in the state with his length, and he also sports a 3.7 GPA too.
