Recruiting Recap 5/21

Welcome to another edition of the Recruiting Recap! Those who are new to the recap this where we tally up yesterday’s offers, three players who are seeing their recruitment heat up and of course our sleeper of the day. Also, the #’s are in, and we will now try to do our best at tracking commits/decommits, but admittedly this will not be as accurate as our offer tracking – that’s where my internet searching skills seem to reign supreme.

Okay with that added change out of the way, I hope everyone is doing well, and staying healthy!

College coaches who come and visit this page each day, you know that we also offer a premium option right with more data? Well contact recruitgeorgia1@gmail.com for more info.

Three Heating Up

Stantavious Smith
2023 Dougherty

The hype around Smith was real in 2019, and we got him signed up soon after the season in December. He finished up the year with 40 total tackles, 12 for a loss and 4.5 sacks. At 6’3″ and 240 lbs. already, there are not many starting varsity freshman with his size and power. The word is getting out too, and in the last 48 hours 4 P5 programs have offered. Georgia, Tennessee, Florida and Maryland have all turned in offers. You can bank on more coming here soon; Smith has an insatiable appetite to get into the backfield and we absolutely love his motor.

Horatio Fields
2021 New Manchester

I know this is a very deep class here in Georgia when an athlete like Horatio Fields has gone under the radar among FBS programs for so long. The 6’3″ 180 lbs. receiver is an outstanding athlete with true breakaway speed at the receiver position. Just yesterday, UMASS came in with an offer, and the last several weeks Gardner Webb and Murray State have as well. Right now, he has three FBS offers, but I’m positive that Fields will be seeing more soon here. Cannot teach his blend of size and speed here – it’s among the best in this class here in Georgia.

Holden Staes
2022 Westminster

Guess whose back again? Holden Staes. There is no doubt that the 2022 tight end has been heating up, but yesterday became a recruiting inferno with offers from Alabama, Auburn, and Tennessee. He’s got an elite group of schools after him at this point, and rightfully so. Staes has the best film we have seen among 2022 tight ends here in Georgia and should be among the most coveted at his position at a national level. He has the perfect blend of athleticism, skill and blocking that you look for at the position. We are not really sure how much more hotter his recruitment can get, but rest assured, we will be there reporting it every step of the way.

Sleeper of the Day

Tray Robinson
2021 Pepperell

Robinson is one of North Georgia’s fastest player, and in pads has been clocked at 20 MPH. Against his region competition, that’s practically unfair, and just a simple screen pass to the sideline can be a gamebreaker to the defense. There is little doubt that Robinson can run, it’s over and again on film where he just blows by defenders with better angles on him. The better question some will ask is where will that speed be utilized best? Most of his offensive plays are purely on screen passes, he doesn’t run many different routes at all but still shows good explosion out his release. Robinson has a natural running stride to him with good forward lean too. He needs more work with his footwork in pass coverage and he doesn’t flip his hips quick enough so there is potential to get burned, at least right now. Robinson has a ton of upside for sure, but is definitely a raw recruit at this point. Would be a good option slot back though, that would probably be his quickest path to playing time. It seems like his highest ceiling will be at CB at the next level, and will most likely need a RS to fully adapt, but cannot deny his natural burst. Right now, Robinson still does not have any offers, but we are convinced that will change soon enough.
