Recruiting Recap 4/29

Welcome to another edition of the Recruiting Recap. As always, it’s David from Recruit Georgia here to talk about yesterday’s offers, three players who are heating up and my sleeper of the day pick too.

Last few recaps have created a good bit of buzz about how we are tracking offers, and more colleges have continued to express interest in our service, no time is better than now to contact about our premium service at recruitgeorgia1@gmail.com.

I want to say thanks again to everyone who has continued to visit this page. I hope everyone is staying safe during this pandemic, and maybe this feature is helping with the mundane lifestyle while we shelter in place. Please continue to come back, we will be posting these late-morning Mon-Fri.

Three Heating Up

Michael Mincey
2021 Ware Co.

Mincey is arguably one of the top linebackers in his recruiting class, and is just now starting to garner more and more interest among P5 programs. Yesterday Miss State came in with an offer, and they are just on the heels of Georgia State and South Carolina as well. He’s been on our radar since his sophomore year where his head coach (at the time) Franklin Stephens reached out and said that he is one of the best linebackers that he has ever coached, which is saying a lot considering the talent he has developed. Mincey who stands about 6’1″ and 215 lbs. has excellent instincts for the game and should be well over 230 in college. Expect more P5 programs to start picking up his recruitment here – he is criminally under the radar right now.

Jake Pope
2022 Buford

Pope was athlete that caught our eye in the state title game, and we jotted him down as a potential FBS recruit at the time. Well, his recruitment has exploded recently with Indiana, Michigan State, Nebraska, and Ole Miss offering in the month of April. The All-Region athlete is really impressive in coverage showing quick reactive feet and also a big-hitter in the open field showing textbook tackling form. Pope also played some receiver where he is already an above average route runner. His upside appears to be best suited on the defensive side of the ball where his excellent coverage skills and instincts in the open field are some of the best we have seen among FS’s in the class of 2022.

Courtney McBride
2021 Heritage

The pass-rusher out of Heritage plays the game with a chip on his shoulder and has an appetite for sacks. He finished off the 2019 season with 9.5 sacks and caused 3 fumbles as well. Well, the month of April he has seen his recruitment turn, and FBS programs are really starting to take an interest. On April 16, Georgia State became his first D1 offer, then South Alabama came in shortly after. Akron and Arkansas Pine Bluff also submitted offers in the last week, so it’s easy to see the 2021 edge rusher is trending up. At 6’3″ and 205 lbs., McBride is just beginning to fill out his frame, but expect the Region 3 Defensive POTY to continue to garner FBS interest from here on out.

Sleeper of the Day

Austin Eldred
2021 Walton

Eldred ended up with 6 interceptions on the year and 17 PBU’s in 2019. He is definitely a quick defender who does a good job of reading the QB’s eyes. I really like his footwork in coverage and how quick he can changes directions. Eldred does a nice job of flipping his hips and shows good speed getting up field to make a play on the ball. Definitely had good acceleration and should be a good fit at CB at the next level. Closes on the ball carrier quickly and makes sure they get little after the catch. Same closing speed in coverage too. Uses hands well to break up the pass, and doesn’t always go for the pick, which we like a lot. He earned his first D1 offer a few weeks back from Mizzou State, and is also receiving heavy interest in Kennesaw State. Eldred is a solid athlete who runs around a 11 sec 100M, and also participated in the Elite GA Classic back in December.
