Three Heating Up

Jayden Johnson
2021 Cedartown

Jayden Johnson is slowly but surely blowing up in the recruiting world. The long-athletic defender from Cedartown was offered by both Arkansas and Oklahoma yesterday. The follow UVA, Kansas State, South Carolina, Coastal, UT-Chattanooga, Navy and western Carolina who rounds out his offers in the month of April. At 6’2″ and 195 lbs Johnson has a lot of versatility playing cornerback and safety. He has very light feet in coverage changing directions on a dime and makes really impressive breaks on the football considering his size. Johnson is an excellent open field tackler and plays with immense physicality in coverage where he can knock a receiver off his route easily. Pretty easy to see more P5 programs jumping in with offers here.

Sam Horn
2022 Collins Hill

Was just talking to a coach over at Collins Hill the other day about the upside of Horn, and just a few minutes late Virginia Tech had offered. The tall rising junior quarterback has all of the tools you look for in a P5 recruit. He has a strong arm that can put the ball on a line. Came up clutch a few times last year, most memorable was his game-winning pass against Walton. Troy and VT now join App State as Horns only offers at the moment, but that number should be well into double digits come this summer.

Steven Nahmias
2022 Maris

Not going to lie, we were watching film of some rising senior offensive linemen at Marist earlier this year when #76 just kept catching our eye in their highlight. Of course, Nahmias had been signed up on our site for some time prior, but his blocking was just too good to miss, even in his teammates’ highlights. Nahmias is a road-grating offensive linemen who is one of the top run blockers we have seen in the class of 2022. Just recently he has earned offers from Nebraska, GT, FSU, and Jacksonville State to go along with a South Carolina offer he got back in January. Nahmias is a no-doubt P5 recruit, and should have well over 30 college offers by the time he makes a decision. For now, expect him to explode with P5 attention.

Sleeper of the Day

Jacob Merrifield
2021 Winder-Barrow

Merrifield is a no doubt FBS prospect in our eyes, and one of the quicker DL we have seen so far in this recruiting class. He is a mauler out there, getting out his stance super fast and creating havoc in the backfield. I don’t know what the rest of the FBS programs are waiting for, but Merrifield will end up being around 290 lbs. and be a perfect 4-3 DT at the next level. It’s hard to find a player with his sense of urgency and quickness at his frame. After watching film weeks on end, Merrifield is the type of athlete that you look forward to watching. Sure he also plays OG, and that will certainly attract run heavy teams, but his quickness and tenacity on the defensive side of the ball is something defensive coordinators need. How many XP’s did he block in 2019? 3-4 from our count. At 6’3″ it is mostly off of effort, but also his explosive first step. Expect him to land at the FBS level, and honestly any program needs to be watching his film now. Among P5 programs showing interest Merrifield told us that Northwestern, GT and Duke are the most in contact.
