Recruiting Recap 4/21

Hey everyone, hope your Tuesday has started off well! Welcome to another recruiting recap where we cover who was offered yesterday in the state of Georgia, three recruits who are emerging with offers, and a sleeper of the day.

Of course, with Recruit Georgia being a NCAA compliant service, we do offer additional information to colleges looking to subscribe, so please contact recruitgeorgia1@gmail.com to be out ahead of the offers instead of reacting! Also, any athletes who we are missing from the offer list please contact us thru DM and we will update this list. We are already receiving very good numbers since starting this feature last week, so expect these to be a daily briefing if you will.

Three Heating Up

Hugh Laughlin, 2021, Athens Acd.

Laughlin has been blowing up the last few weeks tallying almost 20 offers in that span. The one time tight end prospect has ballooned in the last year and now stands 6’6″ and 285 lbs., which is a 40 lbs. increase over the last year. We now consider him to be one of the top OT prospects in this class. His latest offers of USF, UVA, GT, Vandy, Louisville, BC and UCF in the month of April indicates more major players will be jumping in soon. Laughlin just filled out the recruiting form, so expect his profile to be up soon.

Marlin Klein, 2022, Rabun Gap

Rabun Gap has been quietly accumulating some of the top young talent over from Europe the last few years, and the German born tight end looks to be their first P5 recruit. Going into his sophomore year he was a complete unknown, and he told us that he had only been in the states for about 5-6 weeks going into the 2019 season. The 6’7″ prospect didn’t stay off the radar for too long with Arizona State jumping in with an offer last fall, but it’s the last few weeks that has really boosted Klein’s recruitment at a national level. Nebraska offered yesterday, and they follow programs such as GT and Michigan. Expect the soft-handed tight end to continue to land P5 offers over the next few weeks, his recruitment is surging.

JaMario Clements, 2021, LaFayette

Clements has seen a boost to his recruitment over the last few weeks with D1 programs offering. Eastern Illinois which continues to that trend. The strong 5’10” 190 lbs. rising senior back has also seen offers from Lehigh, Air Force, William & Mary, Murray State & Bucknell over the last few weeks. He is slowly approaching double digit offers at this point with some strong academic schools in pursuit. Clements is a grinder with a relentless work ethic, and looks to be a favorite among FCS programs at the moment. Another 1000 yard season this upcoming fall should only bolster where he stands among D1 programs.

Sleeper of the Day

EJ Lackey, 2021, Rome

Lackey was a first team All-Region back as a sophomore at Chattooga, and in 2019 he moved over to Rome where he split carries with a senior back but still earned First All-Region in 5-A. Lackey has good acceleration, and is a physical runner getting downhill and has good timing with his cut backs. Would like to see more forward lean with his running. He put together a productive junior season. Nice little hesitation to running style can really throw defenders off. Subtle in how he jukes but very effective and very little wasted motion in how he runs. Lackey needs to get his pads lower when running the football, and continue to get stronger in the lower body. He has good running instincts for sure, and the speed to break off long runs. Definitely going to be watching how Lackey gains weight over the next year, that could really help him break thru these tackle attempts for even better yardage. He has improved his squat and power clean by about 30 lbs. already this offseason, and I think the 2021 back is set for a big season. Lackey is hearing from a slew of D1 programs at the moment, but still looking for his first offer.
