Recruiting Buzz

Lorenzo SmothersLorenzo Smothers was awarded the Chick-fil-A Offensive Player of the Year at the SportsVisions Columbus Valley Area High School Football Awards Luncheon. The Marion Co. star is an excellent athlete, with incredible balance, making it nearly impossible to knock off his feet. Smothers is a fierce competitor on the gridiron but also a star basketball player as well. RG Profile

Walton’s Josh White has been blowing up as of late. The former Walton QB made a switch to OLB/DE this year, and after a season’s worth of film, he is seeing the fruits of the decision. The 6’5″ 230-pound athlete was offered last week by Army (father’s alma mater), Presybtarian, Furman, Stetson, and Elon. White is hovering around 10 offers now. – RG Profile

A running back that really impressed this season is Tyray Devezin (5’9″ 202) from Etowah HS. He rushed for over 1000 yards and was voted first team All State. Earlier this week, the compact junior running back threw down a 325 power clean. Video

Georgia State seized the momentum after beating Georgia Southern last week 34-7, with the commitment of Mill Creek star Peyton Moore. The Mill Creek pass-rusher made some key plays this season for Mill Creek and was a top target for the Panthers, who offered him at their camp during the summer.

Wake Forest is on the move right now in the state of Georgia. Second year coach Dave Clawson has made a heavy emphasis on recruiting their neighbor state. TK Chimedza, a sophomore DE/TE from Dacula HS, received his first college offer from Wake on 12/7. He recorded 41 tackles in 8 games before an injury sidelined him. Current Indiana commit, Allen Cater, hosted an in home visit with Dave Cohen from the Wake coaching staff. Cater had a strong senior year for Mount Paran and could be interested in playing closer to home. Wake Forest commit Essang Bassey had coach Cohen and Clawson visiting him last week as well.

Georgia State also offered a pair of 2017 athletes from Decatur HS. Grant Walker an impressive RB who rushed for over 1000 yards, and Dennis Bell an athletic two-way WR/CB prospect, were offered on the same day last week. Both athletes should receive a lot of regional attention very soon.

Long time California commit Markus Wright reoponed his recruitment. Wright is an uber-versatile athlete for Jordan HS, where he plays linebacker/safety on defense and wide receiver/tight end on offense.

Saban with top recruit Tyler Simmons

Nick Saban rode his helicopter to McEachern HS where he talked with slot receiver Tyler Simmons. Simmons is a top athlete who is considering Bama, Georgia, GT, and Texas A&M. His big-play ability is one of the best in the southeast and can make a defender miss in a telephone booth. SR Highlights

Jalen Camp flipped from Liberty University to Georgia Tech on December 9th. The long wide receiver had an impressive game in the state quarterfinals where he caught 5 passes for 180 yards and 3 TD’s. Camp is the 10th commit for Georgia Tech in the class of 2016.

Nyjel Green received his first offer from Rhodes. He is a smart player who can bench 260 pounds. RG Profile

Lanier’s Tyler Taylor was offered by Kentucky. The Wildcats join Colorado State as the first two teams to pull the trigger on the OLB from Gwinnett. Taylor is only a junior, and we suspect more schools will jump on offering him very soon.

CV6RAmUWEAYKkE6Prather Hudson was named Region 2-Way Player of the Year. The Brookstone athlete has very good measurements (40 inch vertical) and is being pursued by Air Force, Vanderbilt and the Ivy League schools. Hudson, Essang Bassey, Markus Wright and Sam Ndem were all recognized with All-Region honors this week. RG Profile

Norcross DE Jalen Pinkney received his second offer. Colorado State joined Cincinnati as his lone offers but the lanky defensive end (6’3″ 220) should garner a lot of interest very soon. He is a fluid athlete and has a great motor getting after the quarterback. JR FILM

Darian Bernard a junior DE/OLB prospect received a big offer from Duke University. The Stone Mountain HS star is 6’4″ 225 and runs a reported 4.72 40. Watch some of his JR Film.
