Sleeper of the Day

Kenny Pickens
2025 Long Co.
Linebacker

Pickens has been one of the state’s top tacklers over the last few seasons with 305 going into his senior year. He has been the hammer and heart of the Long County defense. Pickens plays aggressive and low, striking with good impact that efficiently drive the ball carrier to the ground. With his low center of gravity, Pickens gets good leverage on his attempts and very strong tackler. Very little yards after contact. Pickens is intense getting off blocks, meeting the lineman with a lot of force up top and using his quickness to greet the ball carrier. The senior is excellent at dropping his hips, getting low and filling the hole to stop a ball carrier between the gaps. Solid agility and instincts on the field. He even looks faster getting out to the sideline from his junior film. Pickens is the type of player who could really excel with a local program becoming one of their leading tacklers in due time. He is another player that the Long County staff raves about too; standout on the baseball diamond and has a 3.9 GPA with a 1050 SAT.

Three ‘n Out

Toombs County is the team to beat in Class A Div I and just last week they won their opening round game 62-8. Senior QB TJ Stanley has been a major part of their success, and over the weekend, the long-time Georgia State commit took his official visit. The 6’2″ 210 lbs. passer has a great arm with one of the best deep balls in his recruiting class and figures to be in the QB discussion a year from now.

Sequoyah had the upset of Round 1 where they took down Gainesville 38-28. The Chiefs were a 13-point underdog, but don’t tell junior running back Will Rajecki who had 200 yards and five touchdowns in the contest. Rajecki earned his first D1 offer from Georgia Southern after the great first-round performance. The 5’11” 195 lbs. junior back has been a steady force all season. Still, the production against a Gainesville defense loaded with FBS talent solidifies Rajecki’s impact at the FBS level in the eyes of college evaluators.

Record-breaking season for Cody Bryan out of Heritage-Catoosa. The junior receiver had 75 receptions for 1285 yards and 9 touchdowns while also playing great defense at safety and being one of the top threats on special teams in the state. The junior seemed prime for a big year when we did our summer evaluations, but hard to predict one this great. Bryan’s All-State caliber season should turn college evaluators’ heads as he is one of the top two-way players coming out of the area in some time.
