Whatley is widely regarded as one of the fastest players in North Georgia. He ran a 10.84 100M time in the state championship for his classification. Last fall he ran for 1500 yards splitting carries with two other athletes who are real playmakers at RB as well. He has an impressive running stride where he picks his feet up well and can make cuts losing minimal speed. Nice forward lean, and when he sees a hole shows the acceleration and pull away speed to break long runs at a consistent rate. Whatley makes nice cutbacks, he seems to do a really good job of anticipating defenders over-pursuing and times his cut back really well. Whatley runs with the football high and tight more times than not. He shows quality potential as a receiver and is very effective on jet sweeps, which is no surprise when you consider his skill set. His body type is more like a cornerback but film seems to be predominantly on offense until the 8 min mark of his JR film. He is a burner no doubt, but his lack of size and very skinny frame makes adding weight a bit of a concern. He goes down on contact quicker than we would like, so adding more weight to his frame so he fight through for more yards is a must. Realistically he will play at the college level in the high 170s or low 180s. He is best utilized as a slot receiver in a spread offense where he can catch screen passes and explode up field for quick gains.
