Xavier Smith – ATH
Langston Hughes

#2 ATHLETE

Smith has been the starting QB now for a few years at Hughes. He has started to get even more comfortable as a junior. Making some really tight passes here, especially on the run. Smith has been the missing ingredient to the Hughes offense the last few years. He can really make a lot of throws, shows above average arm strength. Definitely like his command of the offense. Delivers his fakes well and above average runner too. Smith does a very good job of throwing on the run. He doesn’t just tuck and run, but keeps his eyes up and throws some darts while on the move. Very good arm talent, I would like to see him be more comfortable stepping up in the pocket, it will open up even more running lanes. Still, he shows good footwork in the pocket, goes through his progressions. Very underrated decision maker. Smith finished 5-A 200m with a 22.19. Smith is now lining up more on defense at safety his senior year and already has a few big plays. Will have to jump back later, but Smith is a great athlete so it should be an easy transition.
