Rainey has a natural forward lean when sprinting and he can really break well on a football. The young man can flat out hit. He goes in hard and fast. For a player with his slighter frame at under 170 lbs., Rainey shows zero fear out there on the field. He’s competitive for the football, attacking the pass and jumping in front of receivers. Rainey might not be a fundamental tackler, but again, he hits hard. Rainey needs to work on his conditioning, seems to get gassed on longer plays. Love how he closes on a ball carrier and his acceleration into his top end speed. Rainey is an explosive player, he makes tight cuts as a runner, makes you wonder why not more film at CB. Right now he is playing more of a FS, RB, and WR spot for his team. Needs to add some weight seriously too. Overall though, Rainey has made some really nice plays, and his strong tackling in the open field effectively gets the ball carrier down. Over the next year I would like to see him work on dropping his hips and exploding through his tackles – instead of shoulder checking receivers. Good new, is that there already moments on film where he does that. College coaches will have a few questions though – is he big enough to play FS and is he fast enough to play CB? If those can be answered at camps, then we think his recruitment can take off.
