Fanning flows to the football like a natural and does a nice job of sticking the ball carrier. We saw him take down some really well put together running backs that we have scouted, knocking them completely off their feet. His play style is predicated on physicality, so he needs to play close to the line of scrimmage. The amount of tackles he makes in solo situations is very impressive, and he does a great job of wrapping up around the waist. The patience he shows as a defender is key, and what makes him one of the most consistent players on Callaway. Colleges will look at his size, and have their doubts but Fanning is honestly one of the better solo tackles we have scouted in 2019 with the consistency he gets down legit D1 offensive players. Couple the fact that he has a ton of assisted tackles and caused several turnovers, I think a wide range of regional schools will be interested in the 2019 recruit. Getting more film of him in pass coverage will help senior year, but we think colleges should absolutely invite to your camp, and see how he does in 1 v 1’s. He would thrive in a zone heavy 4-2-5 or 3-3-5 defense.
