McCoy was a very aggressive linebacker for Irwin County’s 2020 championship. He hits with authority and plays the game with a ton of intensity. He is an explosive tackler for sure, and you have to like the acceleration he shows closing on the ball carrier. McCoy’s speed is pretty underrated but he can move out to the sideline and clean up tackles nicely. It looks like he is doing a better job of moving laterally on defense his senior year and much better in coverage reading the QB’s eyes. McCoy has definitely work on his agility over the last year. I really like the improvement from that respect, and McCoy playing more WILL is a natural position considering his shorter frame. Even against 7A teams like Tift Co. McCoy is tallying tackles in the open field and cutting down ball carriers with clear efficiency. McCoy is a much smarter player in 2021 tracking the football and just making good reads on average against football teams too. The 2022 linebacker is tough as nails with excellent strength capable of holding his own against OL and we really like the efficiency he shows cleaning up his tackles.
