Gilbert was among the first prospects to fill out our recruiting form in the class of ’25, and the All-State defensive back has certainly grown into quite the player. Going into HS, he was around 5’11” and 155 lbs. and now going into his senior year, Gilbert is around 6’1″ and 185 lbs. He is a natural safety with great instincts shading in the direction of the play. What we like the most about Gilbert is his intensity on the field. He flies to the football and hits with impact, showing excellent acceleration to the football. His confidence, especially in man coverage shows that Gilbert is not only well trained, but among the most versatile safety prospects in the class of ’25. Gilbert is a great tackler in space coming in low and wrapping up at the thighs. Gilbert is good communicator on the field, and even though he traditionally plays cornerback for Douglass, his ability to get his teammates on the same page, switching coverages on the fly have a huge impact on the game. Douglass is going to be a football team to watch for in 2024, they have a lot of talent that is headlined by 4 star Jontae Gilbert.
