Davis had 132 tackles and 10 sacks his sophomore year – 79 of those were solo too. He is definitely got to be on your radar, even if he’s just 5’11”-6′. The point is that he has produced, and for a D1 program, that should at least get your attention. Davis made our preseason All-State team as a junior, and is in good position to be at the end of the year too. He’s a pretty bouncy linebacker, does a really good job of reading the ball carrier and changing directions to where he is going. That allows for him to make a ton of plays in the tackle box, so that makes a lot of sense for his production. Davis still needs to get more measured with his tackling. We would like to see him get better at dropping his hips and beating the ball carrier in getting low. He is a relentless player though, and jumps the gaps and is in the backfield fast. The next step in his film is seeing Davis get more explosive. He is all over the field but would like to see him be more efficient in how he gets the ball carrier down. Davis has solid closing speed too, but lack of length will definitely be a hit on his recruitment. Without seeing some of his junior film yet, we just don’t know how he has improve, but ideally would like to see him a lot closer to 220 and just being more forceful with his tackling.
