Powell can get downhill when running the football and is definitely a quick accelerator. I really like the pad level he plays with, natural wiggle to his step and can really make a sharp cut to blow by the defender. He keeps his eyes up field, and makes good running decisions in the open field. I really like the urgency that Powell plays the game with, and he seems like a really good fit in an option offense with the intensity he hits the whole – makes defenses always bite on the mesh whether he gets the ball or not. Powell is hovering around 200 after weighing a little under 190 his sophomore year. Very impressed to see him break so many tackles through contact – he keeps his feet moving at all times (my favorite part to his game). Powell is a tough hard-nosed back, he puts 100% effort into each play. The 2020 back is a power runner, he’s not going to break off too many +40 yard plays, but beat down defenders with brute force. The physical toll to get Powell down is certainly enticing for any run-heavy team. He also plays defense, granted limited reps, but his powerful frame allows him to play close to the LOS. As a runner, he could do a better job of setting up the defender and use poor pursuit angles into his favor and not always trying bulldoze over the defender.
