Pope has gone from an unknown to a 2023 recruit that you really should have on your radar. The basketball player turned football player had a strong senior year where he used his length to make big plays down the field at receiver and also show some promise at free safety even. We are impressed with Pope at receiver the most. He is springy, has a fast release getting up field and reads the football well. Considering his size at 6’4″, Pope is able to go over the middle of the field and eclipse the defensive back from the football. Pope has good change of direction, natural fluidity to get in and out of his breaks. He has a lot of potential as a route runner, although he is mostly raw right now. Getting stronger after the catch and seeing him break more tackles would be good to see, but he still has a ways to go in the weight room and I like how he fights for yardage and has a solid looking stiff arm. Pope is an FBS caliber athlete at receiver at the end of the day.
