What makes you stand out as a future collegiate athlete?
I am very hard working. I have always been told I’m too small to play at the position I play and I make plays every Friday night against guys who are twice my size. I’ve been on all-region and all-county since my sophomore year. I have a 4.1 GPA so I’m a good student. Very hard worker and our football program demands a lot out of us.
Schmidlkofer has made some solid improvements over the last few years since we first scouted. First, he has gained about 20 lbs., and is about 220 lbs. That combined with his good quickness off the line, and really OT’s are having a tough time staying in front. Schmidlkofer comes off the edge with urgency though, and hustles his butt off – that pays off too, and there are instances where he is able to fall on top of fumbles. Where will the 2022 athlete end up at the next level – at OLB or DE? That’s a good question. There was some decent progress over the last year in the weight room with about 40-60 lbs. added with all of his lifts. We were expecting the 2022 to continue to fill out going into his senior year, but he’s actually slimmed down to 215 lbs. He is playing a lot more physical with his hands at the point of attack his senior year and doing a good job of playing low coming off the edge. Schmidlkofer is a hard-nosed type of player whose activity consistently has an impact against the run or pass. He looks a lot quicker timing the snap and getting out of his stance this year too. I think he has good potential as a 3-4 OLB at the next level.
