Pierce County’s Sloan Sets the Tone

Pierce County finds themselves ranked #5 in our 2A polls in the first third of the season. Senior outside linebacker Carson Sloan, a Preseason All-State pick by GHSF Daily, has been an important piece to this year’s undefeated start.

The defense has been downright dominant giving up just 16 points in the first 3 games of the season. Sloan feels like the team is headed in the right direction.

“We have got off to a great start going 3-0 and continuing to get better every week. We plan to when our region and make a deep run in the playoffs,” he said.

What makes Sloan such a unique player on the field is his combination of size and speed. He stands 6’2″ and weighs 220 lbs. while also having a 40 time that is downright elite for his position.

“I have improved my speed the most going from a 4.7 to a 4.53. This has helped me coming off the edge and getting to the quarterback.”

That speed along with Sloan’s outstanding reactions helped the senior make one of the top plays of last week. Going against Liberty County, Sloan was able to perfectly read the eyes of the QB on a short pass out to the sideline and pick the pass off at the LOS. The senior then ran the final 10 yards to complete the pick-six.

On the recruiting front, Sloan talked about the various programs he has talked with recently.

“I have been talking to Kennesaw State, West Georgia, Columbia, and Georgia State. I do not have any college visits planned right now, but hopefully, that will change as my recruitment picks up,” he said.

With 28 tackles on the season, 6 tackles for a loss, and two sacks on top of countless QB hurries, Sloan is showing that his ability to create negative plays can have a huge impact. His production on the field is equally as impressive as his 3.7 GPA and top-flight weightlifting numbers where he has one of the best power cleans in the state at 325 lbs.

His recruitment will be one to monitor for the remainder of the fall for sure, and we suspect that his recruitment will accumulate more interest as the season comes along. So be sure to follow @RecruitGeorgia on Twitter/X to hear the latest on Sloan and athletes all across the state of Georgia.
