The Scoop

Rainey is a good athlete with a basketball background. At 6’3″ his length and agility are really showcased at the defensive back position. He is a smooth athlete, shows good hip rotation, and comes out of a break exploding on the football. There is no way around it, Rainey needs work in the weight room. Definitely has a basketball player’s background, but that also gives him a good ceiling to improve with his strength. We really like the coordination and his ability to attack the football up top. Rainey reminds us of Tay Gowan, a former Newton product who went on to play in the NFL. He is certainly a high upside athlete who despite being raw on the field and the weight room makes him a pretty enticing CB prospect with borderline elite upside. With just 3 offers under his belt, we find it hard to believe that Rainey leaves the month of May with anything less than double-digit offers.
