Expectations for Greene County are sky-high for the 2024 season. The program is 5-1 on the year, their sole loss from Morgan County, the #2 team in 2A, and they are arguably the most talented team in Class A Div II.
Headlining the group is 4-year starter, Steve Miller, whose dynamic playmaking provides community-wide optimism that rivals back to when Greene County was competing for state titles over 15 years ago. Headlining those teams was legendary quarterback Josh Nesbitt, and like the former star, Miller’s versatility can impact the game in so many ways.
“As of right now, my senior year is going great. Like couldn’t be any other year I could ask for; it’s going good,” Miller said.
According to MaxPreps, the All-State athlete has 296 receiving yards and 3 touchdowns on offense along with 14 tackles and two interceptions on defense. The 2024 season has created new opportunities for Miller, who changed positions away from QB, where he has started the last 3 seasons, and to receiver where his explosive playmaking can be utilized in space.
Miller committed to Miss State as a defensive back earlier this year, where his elite defensive instincts and length can grow into an All-SEC caliber defensive back. We asked the 6’2″ senior what made Miss State the right decision.
“What made Miss State the best option for me at the time was it just felt like home. When on my official visit there, everything came together. Great coaching staff, great place to be just be surrounded around great people,” he said.
Before he gets to Starkville, Miller needs to complete his senior year first and has several goals to achieve.
“My goal for the 2nd half of the season is to definitely remain undefeated in region play, win the region, and make a deep run in the playoffs,” Miller said.
Greene County faces off against 4-2 Warren County this Friday in another important region matchup. Although reclassification has turned some traditional rivalries upside down, the Tigers still have old rivalries with Washington-Wilkes and Lincoln County during the 2nd half of October with upstart Lake Oconee Academy sandwich in between.
No doubt, they will be tested to finish off region play with a title, but the folks over at Greene County have bigger plans in the postseason. With an athlete like Miller, Greene County will surely exploit his offensive capabilities during that time of the year, so maybe some more top-10 plays in the future? The final stretch to Miller’s high school career should be fun to watch, so follow @RecruitGeorgia to hear the latest on the senior and players across the state.
