Zay Sullivan is OL of the Week

Mary Persons junior Zay Sullivan is a blocking merchant who deals out crushing blows that leave defenders firmly on the ground. The offensive lineman was in his bag during Week 7 against Upson-Lee, dropping monumental blocks that earned him the nod to be on this week’s Bully Squad.

On Wednesday night, Sullivan was voted the OL of the Week on the site thanks to outpouring support from the Mary Persons community. The recognition encapsulates his excellent junior year so far.

“My junior year is going great, so far my blocking grade is like an A-,” he said.

Mary Persons is rebuilding this year, but one aspect of the program that remains consistent is great blocking from the offensive line. A tradition set by years of great blockers, the junior lives up to those standards, and his consistent play should help the team get back on track during the 2nd half of the season.

“My goal is just to keep getting better and help my teammates get better.” Sullivan continued, “My mindset is just to finish the job and get it done correctly.”

Sullivan sticks to his responsibilities on the field, showing great urgency pulling across the line and tenaciously blocking defenders until submission. Although he’s around 5’11” and 250 lbs., Sullivan’s intensity is a hallmark of his success. He plays with a strong base and the physicality to send bigger defenders plummeting to the ground.

At the next level, Sullivan will likely play center, which should be a natural fit considering his excellent quickness and strong hands. The recruiting process has just started for the junior, but college programs have already taken an interest in Sullivan. He talked about recruiting and what excites him the most.

“I say the most exciting thing is really when a coach talks with me a lot and he lets me visit the school he coaches at,” he said.

Networking during the recruiting process is pivotal for any college recruit, and surely, Sullivan will have more conversations with coaches in the future, so be sure to follow @RecruitGeorgia on Twitter/X to hear the latest news on the junior and athletes across the Peach State.
