October is an apropos month for Carver-Columbus freshman, Kingston ‘Boogeyman’ Brown. The aptly nicknamed defensive lineman shows scary upside on the field and will be a terror for opposing linemen for the next few years of Georgia high school football.
At 6’1″ and 250 lbs., Brown has already made an impact on the varsity, scooping up a fumble in last week’s blowout win against Hardaway and returning it for a touchdown. Brown earned a spot in our top 10 plays of the week and was later voted the #3 play. He talked about the great start of the season.
“It’s going well so far. The pace is definitely different coming from middle school, but I’m taking it one day at a time and focusing on improving with each down, whether I’m playing JV or Varsity. I’m just glad to be on the field getting those reps,” Brown exclaimed.
Over the years, Brown has been regularly updating our page, posting his training and game clips throughout the year, so we have been privy to his growth. Among the most surprising has been Brown’s recent increase in height to 6’1″, and each month it seems like he cultivates more mass.
“For the second half of the season, my main goals are to continue working on my game, specifically focusing on beating the double team, improving my speed and strength, and just improving on my overall game experience,” Brown said about 2nd half goals.
The freshman is a hard worker focused on taking his game to another level, and we wouldn’t be surprised to see his reps continue to increase on the varsity. That speaks volumes about Brown’s impact; Carver-Columbus is a top 5 team in 2A and a real contender to win a state title, so any reps are valuable.
Brown has 3 tackles, 1 sack on the year, and the previously mentioned scoop and score. We asked what his mindset is on the field.
“My mindset on the field is all about getting to the quarterback and making a play by any means necessary. Also, just making sure I’m doing whatever it takes to help our team succeed,” he said.
With college recruiting on the horizon, Brown will certainly catch the attention of college scouts in the future, so we asked what excites him the most about the process.
“I’m really looking forward to the entire process of college recruiting. From receiving a game day invite to getting to know the coaches, it’s all exciting. I look forward to visiting the colleges and experiencing their environments and game atmospheres. Of course, earning an offer would be the best part! It will be exciting to see my hard work starting to pay off,” he said.
For now, Brown needs to exercise patience and build from each success, no matter how big or small, and continue to grow within the framework of his team. If he continues down that path, plenty of football aspirations will surely come true, so be sure to follow @RecruitGeorgia on Twitter to hear the latest on the freshmen and players across Georgia.
