A smart move by Mercer, who is already getting a head start on the athletic junior running back from Eagle’s Landing Christian Academy.
For awhile, Recruit Georgia has been talking about Gear and his impressive skill set. He is a really smart runner, with excellent pad level. His frame should pack on weight easily, and in a few years Gear will be a load to bring down.
That’s not to say the young back cannot move. He has plenty of wiggle and a good burst to accelerate past a defensive player. Watch Gear run the ball, and you will notice his ball security awareness. The class of 2017 back is reliable, he always makes sure to keep the ball high and tight to avoid fumbling.
He played in the Rising Seniors Bowl back in December. Last fall Eagle’s Landing Christian Academy had two battering rams running the ball with quarterback Donald Hammond III (Air Force commit) and running back Trevor Gear. The former, has graduated, which means all eyes point toward Gear in the backfield. Expect the the class of 2017 back to have a big fall next season but right now Gear is focused on impressing colleges at camps.
Recruit Georgia expects the Mercer offer to be just the beginning. Gear has Power 5 size at 6′ 202-pounds, and that has already attracted Ole Miss, Clemson, Georgia Tech, Indiana, Navy, Purdue, Kent State, Illinois, Georgia & UNC-Charlotte.
Gear finished his junior season with over 1600 yards rushing, 17 TDs on 205 rushing attempts and 110 yards receiving. ELCA finished the season with the Class A Georgia Championship.
