Meet Dynamic Junior Bryce Thornton

Earning the #1 spot in the top 10 plays for Week 1 was Milton’s Bryce Thornton. The speedy junior playmaker is not a new name for the RG Top 10, he made it last season on a 60-yard rush, but this is a first for him taking the #1 spot in Georgia.

Going against Hapeville Charter, a consistently strong program in 4A, Milton was looking to make a statement in their home opener of the season.
Hapeville was driving, but already down big in the 3rd quarter, still, they were threatening to finally get on the scoreboard. That was quickly denied by the 2023 defensive back as leaped up snatching a pass from the atmosphere around the 10-yard line. With a caravan of blockers in front, the speedy Thornton quickly ran towards the sideline until around midfield, where he made a few nifty jukes utilizing his blocks and then jettisoned the rest of the way for a 90-yard pick-six.

The play really encapsulated all of Thornton’s talents. The great ball skills, the instincts reading the QB’s eyes and the running vision after the catch to break off a huge touchdown. It was a great play, and rightfully the #1 in the state for Week 1.

Going into his junior year, Thornton already had 3 interceptions under his belt to go along with 79 tackles and 11 pass breakups. Thornton attributes that to his attention to detail.

“My skill set is to always understand my purpose and to place myself in the right position to make the right play.” Thornton continued, “My confidence and drive have improved from last year.”

His college interest over the last year should only bolster that confidence. Thornton holds offers from West Virginia, Ole Miss, Tennesse, UCF, Miami, Oregon, and Georgia.

“My recruitment has been going well. I have spoken to a few college coaches and I’m excited about September 1st. That day will just make everything official,” Thornton said.

Right now, Thornton has no visits planned this fall but we are sure colleges are jockeying for his attendance. The explosive 2023 athlete is clearly one of the top defensive backs in his recruiting class and should collect double-digit offers here shortly.

Thornton’s stock is rising, and there could be a lot of action in the next few days, so be sure to give him a follow on Twitter to see his latest recruiting updates.
