The onetime Univ. California  commit reopened his recruitment on December 9th  after carefully considering his options. He told Recruit Georgia earlier today his reasoning.

“I decommitted from Cal for a few reasons. It was so far from home. My mom doesn’t fly, so she couldn’t make a road trip very often to come watch me play. She’s never missed a game of mine, so that was important to me.”

CZH__dYVAAABl-PA lot of recruiting pundits and fans are now wondering how a former Cal commit with +10 offers ended up at West Point. Conjecture was squashed when Wright told us exactly why Army had everything he needed.

“West Point has so much prestige. When you graduate from West Point, you’re essentially set for life. I want to be able to provide for my future family, and I feel that I’d be able to do that best at Army.”

A remarkable decision with incredible foresight by a high school senior. Wright displays the character that the Army Black Knights covet.

He played outside linebacker and tight end for his Jordan HS team. Wright has great length and moves exceptionally well for his size. He is an excellent pass rusher but disciplined enough to be an effective run stopper.

His final varsity stats on offense were 155 tackles, 9 sacks, and 17 tackles for loss. On offense, he had 415 yards receiving, 28 receptions, and 6 TD’s. Army doesn’t run tight ends so we are safely assuming Wright is an outside linebacker commit.

Coach Monken has now grabbed a few 3 star caliber players from Georgia in this recruiting cycle. His program will be competing at a high-level; once his players are in his system, and understand the scheme.
