Kurt Taylor, one of the top backs for the class of 2017, just committed to the Michigan Wolverines.
The impressive back from Newton HS in Covington had toured Indiana, UGA, Notre Dame, and Michigan the last few months, but in the end, Taylor was most comfortable with the Wolverines.
Newton’s recruiting/defensive backs coach Shelton spoke with Recruit Georgia about Kurt’s commitment.
“I think Kurt Taylor has overcome a ton of adversity in his life. I think Michigan fits his style of play more than any other school that I can think of.”
Taylor had visited Michigan four times in the last 60 days and told me earlier this week that his visit this weekend could lead to a decision. He had an incredible visit each time to Ann Arbor – dating back to the BBQ at the Big House in early August, where he first met coach Harbaugh and was offered just a day after.
Shelton spoke about Taylor’s relationship with Harbaugh. “Coach Harbaugh has shown him a lot of love and he believes that Kurt can make an impact on his program.”
After the offer, Michigan put the full court press on Taylor.
“I think Kurt has fell in love with Michigan’s tradition and their new vision going forward,” said Shelton about Taylor’s early decision to commit as a junior.
The Newton star player might be the most ripped running back in the country and the Wolverines love his strength for Harbaughs smashmouth offensive scheme. Taylor runs similar to Frank Gore and could be a great back in the Big 10. Expect the workout warrior to continue to get bigger this next offseason, and have another big offensive season.
Shelton’s finals remarks spoke highly of Taylor.
“I think Kurt Taylor is the number one 2017 running back in the nation and he continues to show that every game. Most importantly, I think his character is the best thing about Kurt.”
Kurt Taylor is the third commit for Michigan in the class of 2017.
